Takes so long to gold your gear...

I have more than enough gold tannins, tempers, alloys and kutas. What I did was save them all since I was level 3 (with my crafter alt). I find that refining raw mats gives me a better chance at acquiring gold mats. I'm probably just patient, but patience pays. Plus maxing out the crafting skills helps you save lots of these gold mats.

Gold weapons are important but gear is optional because the difference is relative small.

Kuta's can be acquired very easily if you do daily enchanting writs, I never have to buy them and I have 70+ in the bank just from enchanting writs on 3 chars.

I don't even bother making my gear gold at this point. New gear gets released every 3 months or so so why put in the effort.

If you want gold gear and arent doing writs/using hirelings, you are doing it wrong. They are the best source of gold tempers IMO. Also as a general rule, if you want something that can be bought, don't farm the item. Farm gold, and buy the item. Different people make gold better in different ways. Also, the first few weeks after a new patch is a terrible time to by gold tempers. Great time to sell, but I would hold off for a few weeks and save some gold.

I've been playing since beta and I've just gotten enough to gear one character. I tried hirelings for kutas, I got one in 6 months for 2 hirelings. Finding one while harvesting is like winning the lotto. Once I got my crafter leveled, I was farming voidstone like crazy and I was barely getting one per 1000. That's right THOUSAND. RNG hates that character and it's an Imperial....

I gave up for a while. Will try again when I get another character that can decon. Hopefully that one will have better luck.

Yeah hirelings used to solve this and should be un nerfed. No reason to pay 6 k for a tempering alloy that is worth 2 k.

I have sold probably 30 Kuta in the last week since the DLC dropped, and I have another 100 in my bank. I have far more than I could ever use and I have at least one set of gold gear on 4 toons. All are from writs. Hirelings are only worth it these days if you have the skill line maxed out, but definitely worth it nonetheless. They give you other stuff worth selling, and its totally passive. They definitely dont send gold mats like they used to, but I still get a handful of them every week.

I hate to even post this, but if everyone did enchanting writs, kuta would be worthless. I do it on 4 toons and get get 8-10 kuta a week, sometimes more if I get lucky on some surveys. It has become my main source of income. The only gold mat I ever have to buy is wax, but that is only because I have so many alts. If you are consistent with doing writs on a few toons every day, mats simply arent an issue.

I hardly think I was lazy with the amount of stuff I farmed and deconed to get basically nothing back. After days/weeks of this I got tired of grinding it and needed a break.

I just did wrothgar and started selling the v15-16 mats, TG isn't out for console yet so the mat prices are rising.

V15-16 Mat prices are falling hard on PC. They are much more available in the thieves guild patch. Even in wrothgar, the number of nodes seems to have tripled (total guess, but feels that way). If you are sitting on reserves, I would sell them ASAP. Gold tempers on the other hand, always tend to shoot up for a few weeks after a DLC. Post DLC is a great time to sell, but if you need to buy, I would hold off a few weeks.

Cook green VR10 and VR15 recipes. Sell the foods and drinks to NPC merchants. As long as you have the "three extra servings" perk and keep the average cost for each ingredient item at 5 gold or less, you can make a reasonable profit.

I've probably made over 10 million gold this way (and spent most of it). I have 2.2 million gold in the bank now. I've never had any problem buying gold tempers for weapons and armor. Especially since I shop around, being sure to hit the guild store malls in Mournhold, Wayrest, Eidon Root, Raw'ka, Belkarth, and Orsinium. I once found a ton of good deals on food mats at the guild store in the Shornhelm Outlaw Hideout.
