Unable to Leave the Interior of a Dwelling or Business if caught Thieving/Stealing

My question to ZOS is why the player cannot use the door to try and escape and evade capture or death inside a Dwelling or Business when confronted by a guard or citizen once caught stealing. The players is doomed there is no escape. That defeats the whole purpose of having the option/opportunity to try and escape and evade. That needs to be changed the player should at least have a chance to get out of a building.

If it's a two story building you can evade them for a few seconds and make it to the door. If you can evade them without getting hit for 6 seconds, I believe, you have an opportunity to open the door. I recall seeing something like that in a post from ZOS somewhere not too long ago.

But yeah it'd be nice to have a better way to escape. Perhaps add open windows to buildings to escape through.

Windows or something would be very cool.
Meanwhile tho it's tough, especially in a small house where there's not much room to manuver.
Invisibility pots can help, you just need to not get hit for a few seconds.

I am not sure, but I think to remember that someone said, you can use those new "hiding spots" even in combat to get away from it. Maybe this is a way to disengage and wait for the guards to calm down and return to their routine.

Maybe someone who knows better can correct or confirm that.

The thing is... if you get attacked, like when a citizen punches you after catching you stealing, you cannot use doors for a short while. Thus if you keep getting punched... you will get punched and punched with no chance of escape out the door. Has been like that ever since justice came to tamriel...
The trick is to not get punched for a while, then slip out the door. Which can be pretty hard sometimes... though a potion of invisibility or something like that can help, as can stunning/panicing the guard or such.

Still... most times, getting caught stealing in an building means you'll get caught with no chance of escape. Know this. Be extra careful. Don't do it when you have your bags full of loot, visit the fence before attempting any such high-risk burglaries...

This is correct. But these are only in Abah's Landing. If you get heat, just jump inside and the guards forget all about you. Crouching will make the baskets glow yellow so they are easier to spot and take a mental note of for planning your escape.

A potion of invisibility also works well against civilians as long as you avoid taking damage, but it won't fool the guards if you have already picked up heat. In that case you will need to find a basket to hide in or make a futile attempt at CC'ing the guards and dodge rolling around the building for 6 seconds :D . Larger buildings are easier to escape from since you have more room to gain some distance on the guard.

Yeah this annoyed me a bit when I lost my 1400 gold bag of wonderful loot because a guard spotted me through the wall, came rushing at me and as it was a small house, I couldn't get the 6 second window to escape. So I just had to wait, and die. A bit annoying, a good thief could get out of the window easily.

I've found that even if you avoid being hit for six seconds and get to a door that allows you to exit then you can still get hit during the door opening 'cut scene' and have to evade your attacker all over again, so you need a pretty good distance from your attacker before trying to use the door.

One thing that can help - raise your thievery guildishness high enough, then you have clemency as once-per-day get-away-from-guard-free-and-with-your-loot. You know... for those times when they nab you while you have a freshly stolen imperial motiv in your bags...
