this is more directed at zenimax and eso in general, so i am a returning player and i have to say, installing game from disk set then doing a 4 hour dl/install and it says i am 3 pct done (2 patches of 30gig+?) and over an hour to "apply" said patches, well, not lookin good, as i also was going to have my wife play and need to go thru same thing (on hers i tried doing it straight thru launcher and its a 40gig DL right off)
note that i am on fiberoptic and my DL on speedtest is over 50mps.
anyway, i am venting here cause they are making me wait ALL FRIGGIN DAY to play, just saying , not lookin good if its this friggin hard to be able to get a new player to join
maybe something like, well ALL THE OTHER MMO's and allow a partial DL install to get you goin and DL the rest in the background while we check it out, i mean you trying to make new players QUIT IN DISGUST before they even get to play?>
note, started this process at about noonish, and its 430 and i am applying the second? third? patch and it says i am 4 pct done

    Sounds painful.
I know I have seen posts here about how to copy the game to another computer without going through all that a second time.
    Hope that helps a bit.

ZOS simply tells you never uninstall ESO or get rekt.

What did you expect when you installed it from a disk set? The game is 2 years and have had a whole load of updates, surely you'd knew that it would take some time to install and update the entire game, especially taken into consideration that there's 3 DLC packages as well as all the fixes done to the game since release.

well, i was trying to see what would be easier, install 20gig from disc then patch, or complete new DL and patch from patcher, so far both are about evenly painfull. tho i think the straight DL thru patcher on wifes laptop is catching up to me, i am at 30 pct and dl'ing another 4gig patch while the laptop is at 22 pct and installing a patch. both are hardlined to router and both are at 3-4 mps dl speed which is most likely the zenimax servers.
still doesnt address the point of, do you really think your average new 16-24 yr old player is going to bother with this game once they see it takes more than 20 min. let alone the 5 hours i have in, to be able to log in?

Most games do take that amount of time to install. Look at Steam, most of the games can't be partially downloaded, yet it's one of the biggest platforms for digital distribution. I think you're over exaggerating the problem, most people don't expect a game of today's size to download in 20 minutes. If that had been the case then Steam would have been closed down years ago.

The problem is when you install from a disk then the game needs to apply each and every patch up till today's patch. The patcher doesn't have a "package", where it downloads all the patches and apply them in one go, they download one patch, install it, then check if that's it, if not, they download the next patch, install it, and repeats the procedure until all patches have been downloaded and installed. That's why it's a bad idea to install a game from scratch using disks that are 2 years old.

did wow today, less than 20 min, rift, less than 30 min, neverwinter, like 15 min, blade ans soul was about 30 min, EQ2 was bout 40 min, ALL of them dl the basics and allow the rest to go in background while you play. been poking around several games looking for one me and wife would enjoy, so testing many out, must say you are flat out wrong, NO other game i have tested in last 30 days has taken a fraction fo the now over 5 hours and counting and at 31 pct

WoW downloads the basic areas, if you're a returning player and wants to go to per example Pandaria, you can't with a partial download. And you can't get into current content on the partial download if you're installing from scratch. Same goes with any other games, if you're just starting out to install it and don't have a partial install already there, you're only having the basics and the starting areas.

The entire game folder is at around 47 Gb, if you're having a 5 mb/s speed, it should take you 2 hours to download the raw data. I think that there might be something that strangles your download speed because it shouldn't take that long.

Basically Take an external hardrive and copy the game files to it, and transfer it to your wifes computer that way, I think they allow two or more accounts on one client so yeah just do that. But yeah, I think it has to do with there patcher its possibly the worst out there, I think other games patch much faster then that.

heh, i should have done straight dl thru patcher, wifes at 80 pct while i am still patching updating, patching updating, etc
ya, point was that you can dl and start playing in less than 30 min while it finishes up dl in background, i mean literally i went from zero content to playing wow starter area in 20 min, and i kept patcher up and it finished the entire 40 gig in bout 90 min and was 100 pct intalled, wifes laptop has done okay i guesds its been almost 4 hours and its almost done, zenimax serevers throttle the dl speed to about 3mps, but thats not uncommon, tho this mornin wow was dling at 10 mps, and yoru right, wow didnt include the panda expantion as i didnt pay for whole game yet anfd with elder scrolls i already have game, so its a fuller DL too

Exactly what I did. Got the whole game on external. Update every time the game is patched. Mind you, my copy is the digital download.
