'Collectible' items ?

So I recently acquired a couple of collectible items as drops from monsters, but have absolutely no idea what to do with them, nor can I bank them. I have an 'Ectoplasmic Discharge' and 'Chattering skull'. I did a bit of research but couldn't find much. What use do I have of these items ? I don't want to get rid of them yet, unless of course, they're found to be useless.

The use of them is in geting them. As soon as you pick them up, they will be added to your "collections" (check journal - achievements - trophies) and you can sell the thing.

Ohh okay thank you! I think they have 0 value anyway, so I'm assuming I can just destroy them after I've picked them up ?

I've had a chattering skull for ages. Now that we have the new collections tab, I was hoping that all of my 'trophys' would find a home there in the tab. The chattering skull refuses to go anywhere, or do anything. Has anyone successfully made a candlestick out of this thing, or otherwise done anything with it except destroyed it? Is it linked to a quest?

I won't sell them until ZOS create something like they did for Mementos. I'll still surviving with my tiny inventory

Nope. It's not that kind of trophy. You'll know when it's added to your collections inventory. Some people keep them, others just sell them. :) They literally do nothing but add into your achievement of that type to get titles/dyes.

The new collections tab is for trophies from dungeon quests. These are items with no other value that can't be sold, but can be banked. Monster collectibles, on the other hand, are rare drops from specific monsters that go toward achievements...no quest involved. These collectibles cannot be banked, but can be sold. No need to hold them, you get the achievement as soon as you collect it, just as with rare fish. As far as holding them for from inventory improvements, a la the the tab, it's logical to assume if this happens we'll get credit for any collectible or fish, just as we did for all the dungeon trophies we ditched.

They changed that so you couldn't just throw all trophies you find "en passant" on one character, but have to -work- on completing the collection...
Also, back in the day you had to "use" these trophies to add them to your collection, nowadays thats done automatically when yopu pick them up (just like catching rare fish).
So right now, they are nothing but vendor trash, sadly.
    ...
...who else here wished they would be useful in crafting something extra-special instead?

It is an artifact of how the game worked at launch. You would use those items and that would work towards an achievement. Now that you don't have to use the items and they automatically get credited towards the achievement, you can just sell them (or destroy them).
