Will I have to re-purchase ESO software to play the game on my new computer?

I recently bought a new computer to regain access to ESO after the update made my DirectX 10.1 old computer incompatible with the game. I hope to install the game's user-local software on my new computer after it arrives from Amazon.

I want to continue using the same account as I already have. Will I have to buy the game again in order to play it on my new machine?

If yes, I'd like to know about it so I can get over feeling bad before the time comes to pay up.

If no, then I'd like to know how to get the game installed on my new computer without buying the software all over again.

No, just log in to your account at elderscrollsonline.com and then download the game.

Nope, you can just downlaod the installer from the account section of the website and start playing again.

If you already had the PC version, then no. If you bought digital version you can log into your account and download it via a link they provide you.

If you had the console version, then yes you will need to purchase the PC version.

No, you don't have to buy it again. When you log into your account on the webpage (the same place you would go to manage your ESO+ membership if you have one, change your password, etc) as long as you have purchased the game previously you'll see a button to download the game client.

No you don't have to buy the game again. Just copy over the game directory folder on to your new hard drive.

Ok, thanks. The computer cost $1600 with tax, and I was worried about further expenses. It's a good computer, though. And it was time for me to upgrade my gear anyway because the computer I'm using now is six years old.

and no, no purchase needed cuz its not 1995 :open_mouth:

and unless it was a laptop (even if it was you could have gone with a external gpu) idk why you purchased an entire new machine. you could just have upgraded the gpu if it was a desktop

No. I would suggest that you simply download the installer from your user account on the ESO Webiste and install that. That way you don't have to install the game from a physical disc, only to practically redo the same process again due to all the updates.

I also suggest that you download the 64-bit VC++ 2010 Redistributed package. It may be installed already, but it's a small download and quick install.

If your system only has the 32-bit VC++2010 package (it installs with the web installer of ESO) the 64-bit client will only return an immediate ESO crash report upon launching. I also suggest that you create a shortcut to the eso64.exe on the desktop, which facilitates using it (and, if needed, setting compatibility modes and administrative rights).

There could be other issues involved. For instance I had to completely purchase a new computer myself due to the constraints of the case and I'd rather do that than have something present a fire hazard (especially when you have a cat that gets into everything at all hours of the day/night). For the machine I'm running right now, I have to upgrade the PSU in order to upgrade my GPU, however nothing above the current PSU I have will fit, brand name and generic (searched for a good two years and still nothing will unless I downgrade). So there are situations like that. However, regardless I needed to upgrade this machine anyways as working+ESO+a ton of other things all at once? Sounds like an airplane taking off.

Yap. It's an old liquidated machine from my work that I just kept using until I could find something that I liked and it went like this for a year or two (modding and ESO got me side-tracked) and I just forgot about it for the longest time. So in a way, this was a kick in the butt to find something that I'd like and can upgrade with ease of mind without having to worry about the space issue all that much.

Granted, I don't know all that much about external cards, but if it has wires outside of the actual unit that's connected to some kind of power supply that isn't thicker than the larger power cards (my cat won't bother those, but she'll totally gank USB/headphone cords) it'd probably be an accident waiting to happen. She's one of those breeds where she literally has to be in everything. Fun cat. But she's already killed a few routers and quite a few USB wireless cards.

Congrats on the new system! You got a really good run out of your old one. My wife and I are using systems built in 2011 and 2012 and they still run great. I updated the Video cards to GTX 970's in Oct 2014 and went with Water Cooling and OC'd them last year. We should still be playing on these in 2-3 years. Eventually we'll need to SLI the 970 GTX's but nothing really needed other than that.

    What are your system specs?
