What card did you get for $27?

Lots of cheap Direct X 11 cards around, just remember they too will be obsolete in the near future, but hey $27 is nothing, cool, glad it worked out.

Yeah, $1600. I have to admit that for the past two years I've been something of a gaming bottom-feeder. My computer was bought from Walmart in 2010, and it still works OK. It just isn't spec for ESO now that they don't support DX 10.1.

Also, it never has had a video card in it. The motherboard was sorting out the graphics, which meant that I could play only on MINIMUM resolution, and there were times when even then the lag was too bad to do any significant PvE combat. I wouldn't be viewing my game in real time, but with a delay of 1 or 2 seconds, and sometimes it was even worse.

Funny things would occur. An Ogrim, a Clannfear, a wasp, or a Sword-and-Board enemy would set up to do a charge, and I'd do what any sensible person would do, which is namely step out of the red path that the enemy has committed himself to charge down, and then come back and whack him a few times while he's dizzy. Well, when the lag was bad, my monitor had a delay in showing me combat events, and although it looked as if I'd gotten away from the attack, I didn't. My character went, whump, down, even though she was out of the red.

Needless to say, I was easy prey for anybody else in Cyrodiil.

And even when I was out harvesting resource nodes, I was at a competitive disadvantage. I'd see a void bloom or some such thing and bend down to gather it in. While my character is bent over reaching, somebody else would come running up, bend down, and grab the goods, while I got the BONK sound and the "Someone is using that" message. It sure LOOKED as if I had been the clear winner in getting to the node first, but that was because my game was lagging visually, and I was looking at the past instead of the present.

I'm tired of being a loser on account of having inferior equipment. So I decided to upgrade in a major way. I've just bought a "Famous Brand Name" (you'd recognize the maker's name) gaming computer through Amazon for about $1590, the last $90 of which was - curses - tax. The specs are

And some other stuff, like an optical 16x DVD±R/RW, which I hope can handle M-disc, but no problem if it can't because I already have external drives that can. And wi-fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a bunch of USB 3.0 and some 2.0 ports.

I've had a lot of practice losing PvP fights. Now I'm going to see if I can win a few.

Really, with the computer I've been using for ESO, the lag was sometimes so bad that I'd send a command and wait five seconds before seeing it executed. Sometimes I figured that I hadn't pressed the H key hard enough, so I did it again, with the result that I got ON my horse, and then got right OFF of it again. It can make keeping up with other people difficult.

And my loading screens were way longer than other people's, so that, say, I'm heading into the Dragonstar Arena with three other players. They all get in and gather in the staging room, waiting impatiently, while my character has frozen by the door and I'm still looking at a loading screen and don't yet have control back.
