Why keep levelling my VR characters?

With the VR removal coming up I find it hard to justify spending time to level my various alts that are from VR2-12. I have one VR 16 character so as I understand it I will get all the CP bonuses when VR is removed. So until they are I will just be crafting soon to be obsolete gear and grinding soon to be obsolete VR levels?

Right now I mainly log on to grind CP and AP which is OK but it does seem a bit pointless to level any VR characters right now.

Am I missing something?

You won't magically get tons and tons of CP to make you hit cap. They will just make sure you can still wear the equivalent to VR16 armor and stuff. Sooo.. CP could be a good reason to keep going.

Although you could make alts right now and level them all to VR1... So when the change happens you suddenly have a bunch of max level characters...

To be competitive you still need on your alts:
    1. enough skill points (from main quests, some dungeons and skyshards)
    2. have leveled the skills you intend to use
    3. probably get your undaunted passives

We should have fought for our village and not have backed down, with our tail between our legs. Now my home village is in shambles, the houses burning, the invaders feasting.I swear every day to Shor that after Molag Bal has been defeated, I will hunt down the invaders and restore peace in Bleakrock and drink my mead with my friends at the market place".PC-EU

I have 1 V16 and continue playing my other characters because I want to play them. If one or more makes it to V16 by the update, great, if not oh well.

Very reasonable answers. I think my main gripe with the system is that when I play an MMO I'm in for the long haul so it bugs me that a large part of my achievement will be taken away again. But on the other hand if I want to PVP or do serious endgame PVE I have to be level 16.

Oh well - I can always level the few alts I have left under VR1 :-)

I've got 3 toons to 16 since they announced vet rank removal.

    Why?

I'm now max CP. Secondly, you'll want all your skills maxed so when it becomes "end game" overnight, you're ready to rock and roll.

Main reason - who knows when they'll go? It could take months.

I will be wondering where you will be getting the 15 skill points you will not have and likely never get. If you think they are just going to give them to you. I have some Monopoly money to sell you for real money. By the time the patch drops in four more months I will have 6 vr 16 toons maybe 7. I try to have minimum of 275 points on every toon. But it's ok you obviously think the less two weeks it takes to level is too much. When I first started playing this game a vr level was 4 million. Now that is 5 vr levels. If it was up to me they would stay so be glad I am not in charge. Zos will likely screw it up so.... Whatevs.
Sorcerna, proud beta sorc. RIP April 2014 to May 31 2016 DArk Brotherhood. Out of retirement for negates and encases. Sorcerna will be going back into retirement to be my main crafter Fall 2018. Because an 8 k shield is f ing useless. Died because of baddies on the forum. Too much qq too little pew pew. 16 AD 2 DC. 0 EP cause they bad, CP 2300 plus 18 level 50 toons. NA, PC, Grey Host#SORCLIVESMATTER actually they don’t or they wouldn’t keep getting nerfed constantly.

You will get a skill point every 10 cp you gain. If you already have 160+ cp you will just gain those skill points.

I'm in the same boat as OP here. As of now I'll just ignore the thought of removing VR. I'm pretty sure this move will be delayed and when they remove it will have some compensation in place for all your gear and missing points etc.

I got 260 CP atm and will prioritize maxing out this for the time being...

(.....and still waiting for the incremental that will fix drop rate for outlaw helmet motif.... )

As I understand things so far, my estimation -- and I could very easily be mistaken here -- is that all Veteran characters will receive enough base CP to be able to equip their current VR level of equipment (equips after LV50 will have a CP requirement instead of just a level requirement). In addition, in order to not undermine the effort players have done to earn CP so far, you'll get to keep the current CP for your account. I expect there will be an increase in Maximum CP in order to make room for the combination of these two things.

Thus, from what I can tell, your best bet is to get all of your alts to VR16, then focus on maxing CP on your main. In that sense, since CP is shared across the account, you'll have maximum level and maximum/optimal CP being calculated for your newly adjusted CP maximum once the system is in place.

Again: I could easily be mistaken here. This is just what I feel is the most logical way to handle the transition in a manner that does not undermine everyone's hard work.

I am still not sure they will every remove the VR-Levels. There are just soo many variables behind the system. The whole zoneprogression ties in with VR. Not to mention difficultylevels and especially the crafting.
I just dont see a way outa this.

I gotta say I really only hit the CP cap with levelling/grinding my five VR16 characters up without a boring CP grind itself. Plus until the TG update there wasn't really much to do but PVP (meh, lag, so mostly Non-Vet campaign therefore levelling again) and getting other chars up.

The thing that originally attracted me to this game - and still does - is the freedom to experiment with different characters, races, roles and builds. But it's way more interesting to do this on VR 16 characters as you have access to the best gear. But it quickly becomes very expensive if you want to try out different VR16 legendary or purple pieces. And if on top of that the VR16 requirements go away it feels like a waste of time and gold.

I still enjoy the game and I'm not bitching about the removal of VR. I was just interested in hearing how other players deal with the insecurity until the removal.

You tell me. I'm currently getting my non VR characters to 50, PvP lvl 10, skyshards, dolmens, books. Then in a few months with VR removal/race change I'll do all the DLC's to get the gear for each character and get undaunted.

I should have 6 max level characters then. I've plenty to do now instead of doing everything on my main (Templar), which is great because Templar's are utter crap.

Last ESO live, they said VR removal has already been coded in and just needs implemented with DB patch.
