Won`t happen. no mmo has ever had a characterservice like namechange offered via ingame-currency. Not even WoW.

ESO Should be the first to do it to put all MMO's in their place. Take a step in the right direction ESO. Give the fans what they want.

SWTOR has a name change that costs Cartel Coins. You can buy them, sub and receive them monthly, but some quests and achievements also give Cartel coins. So they are also some sort of ingame currency if you don't sub and don't buy them.

Therefore I vote for SWTOR for the first mmo that has namechange with ingame currency.

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

I am VERY much against this if you rushed your char and named him "I P in my pantz" or "fghjtlaw" that is on you!

    THIS IS ELDER SCROLLS!!!!
    V4O9eO.gif
( character creation is a MAJOR part in the series ).

You should of thought about that before you did it.

Race change I can agree with ( I don't want it, but I don't think players who weren't aware of racial passives should be penalised for not being aware, I was well aware long before launch ).

Appearance change should be minor - hair colour, facial hair & hair style, tattoos, jewellery or crowns & other acccessories, nothing like change gender ect.

I have re-rolled many times because I got bored or a name or a "look"

They should just add character slots, don't like your name? MAKE A NEW ONE!

Strongly disagree. You can change your name and get a sex change in real life. Should be able to in game as well for in game currency. lol

Changes for in-game gold would have been nice. And had the game stayed subscription-powered, the way to go.
Sadly... that particular ship has sailed and sunk a while back...

So now we have the BtP model, which means all extra effort, like programming recustomization features, will get monetized to keep up the profits, else the suits in charge would pull the plug.
That's the way the cookie crumbles.

And I am okay with putting my crowns where my mouth is, and paying with them for my recustomizations.

And yeah, some people are opposed to those options. Which is somewhat callous, and stupid. For one, not nice to tell people to just throw away two years of gametime and character buildup and "reroll", for another, not smart to deny the game a source of income that would fill their warchest to keep the servers running and finance nifty improvements for all of us down the road.

On the logical side... people change their names all over history. Why shouldn't they in this game? Just slip a clerk a few crowns, and they might "update your paperwork" with your new name.

Facechange? That too, we had this option in Skyrim, and thus "Plastic Sorcery" is part of the ESO lore.

Racechange? Ditto, we have seen alchemy change peoples races in a quest or two playing through the content, so its there. And with people always whining about racial passives... eh. Let them pay to change if they really want to. Not like i care if they do, and it'll be more money towards the next improvements...

Gender change? A mere extrapolation of racechange, and in any case, a classic in fantasy stories (I shall never forget that one time back in D&D when my character was too greedy grabbing a magic belt... ;) )

And I expect all those to come with character recustomization, hopefully sooner then announced, but likely not :disappointed:

Alliance change? That one is under consideration from what we hear, and may at some future date be coming. Or not.

Class change? That's the only one where the official word seems to be "nope" - understandable.

Name change will only be available via the cash shop.

Get your guildies to complain to Zos that your name is offensive. They may force you to change it, for free.

This has worked in the past for people. YMMV.

well i just want it for my first char... ;)
i was bit hyped and didn't spend mutch time on him in char creation and would like a name change. but for me it would make sense it will cost crowns given the fact it's something "cosmetic". it doesn't impact the game at all (especially on console where only you can see the name and other just your GT) and they useally cost crowns. don't be a cheap *** and demand it to be in game gold. doesn't make sense

It'll probably cost crowns, but it would be nice if it were also a subscription perk along with appearance changes. Unlimited amounts of changing appearance/name if subscribed, etc.

i agree on most part except race change in the game :P.
only two i can come up with are in akak'r which changes you into an animal and the quest in coldharbor was a fusion between 2 people who where of different race. if you have another i would glad to be corrected ;).

Comparing a fantasy game where you can use magic to real life?

    Strong logic...

Greenshade, you find a order for alchemy ingredients in the northernmost dwelve, bring it to a dunmer in the town, who uses them to make an alchemical poition that is supposed to turn him Khajiit, but if you stay after turnbing in the quiest and watch, the mix is wrong and it turns him argonian instead...

Rivenspire, you help a certain ditzy archeologist and her stalward manservant (who may or may not be himself depending on what you did the first time you met he pair) to recover a cerain "emerald chalice"... which so happens to turn everyone who drinks from it into a goblin. And turning them back requires more magic.

Thus... race change is evidently possible by alchemy and curses. (or daedric intervention, see chimer turning dunmer and such - so if you wish really loud near a shrine of clavicus vile... ;) )
    Duiwel wrote: »

    Strong logic...
... sooo... you are saying, because it is a fantasy game, with magic, things that are possible in real life, without magic, should not be possible there, despite added magic oprions??? And dare use logic in the same sentence as implying that?;)

Point is, people have been chaning their names ever since somewhen in the stone age "chump" decided people should call him "gnorrk" instead and beat everyone with his club until they did... (or all the ones who kept calling him "chump" died of blunt trauma, or someone with a bigger club came along and bludgeoned the idea, or the brains, out of his skull). As people got more civilized, it was less a matter of who could swing a club hard enough, or going to new places where you could establish a new identity... but also changing some official records somewhere - loosing the old ones, slipping in some new ones, whatever. Which is where a bag full of crowns as bribe comes in... you get the idea? ;)

And as has been mentioned, character name changes are entirely cosmetic... be if those wheree someone did not spend as much time as they ought to have considering theitr character name (sadly I too am guilty of this for one of my alts... thinking "eh, its just a crafting alt" and then having it grow on me, the elvish-sounding name for my orc blacksmith and general craftsmistress is always grating at my immersion...), or be it for those people who feel the need to completely reinvent a character to make a clean breap, roleplay-wise, with some bad memories... (has not happened to me in ESO yet, but I know the feeling from other online spots)

But hey, people can decide on their own if they would use those options once they become available, and how they would feel about it... those who want to, will support the games profit margain with their crowns, those who don't want to, need not take notice of the features once they come.
