Maintenance for the week of April 6:

Will this game make it past the dark brother hood in its current state?

The only problem with this game is the people thinking it's a single player game when it's an MMO. The devs don't even seem to know the path (although their DLC solo content is an indication)

If it keeps going down the road of a single-player game with a cash shop then I'm sure the actual MMO folks will abandon ship. (Those that haven't left already)

people come and go these days always looking at the next "Big Game" only to find out the next "Big Game" is not all that after the shine wears off, will some people go play those other games yep, will they all stay nope, there are already some people bored with Black Desert after 5 days, just the nature of the mmo beast these days, I don't think any game that has come out has killed any current game online, but you will see population fluctuations even if there were no new games coming out. I don't plan on playing any of those new games and none of my friends are eithers, and I am sure we are not the only ones. What will kill off ESO is it's own internal problems if the dev's don't step up there game on fixing issues.

I have long given up on the idea that I could play all of the major games, which would interest me. I simply cannot and so i have to focus on a few games and enjoy them instead to hop from one unfinished game to another unfinished game - and pretty much any new game is released in an unfinished state nowadays. Especially bad is the "early access" mentality nowadays, which provides developers with income early on and there is no need for them to ever complete the game - why would they, the next unfinished one will sell quite as well as "early access" - that is what people get, if they fall for "early access". More and more games will just be unfinished and early access - I rather go for a game which will get better over time and get into a state where it is enjoyable and feels complete - it will still have some flaws though, nothing is really perfect.

When the game was released, people asked the same sort of question, will this game survive. That was back in 2014, now we're moving around in 2016 and it's still here, and the game world seems fairly active. So I don't see any problems or decline that worries me too much, it's nearly as active as it were during release with a lot of players still moving around the different zones. I like that, this game deserves to survive, it's not perfect, but it has its little corner of supporters and its charm, despite its flaws and problems.

Haha, yes, just like EVE online is dying since 13 years - it will be around in 10 years as well and going strong, but people will continue to say it is dying. That is just how bitter vets are - they have played it too much and do not like changes. But life is change and a game what does not change over time, is doomed to fail. Bitter vets will be bitter vets and they might leave, so be it, new folks are joining the game and it goes on with new content - if it is a good game by principle it will last.

i personally would be happy if they stopped making boring pve content and focused and giving duels, and pvp content, and i would be even happier if they stopped making any content at all for 6 months or so, and fixed every single bug the game has with weekly updates until every bug is fixed

Think this game's population is pretty healthy, people have said it's been struggling and will die soon since launch but if you look at the reviews it got at console launch compared to PC launch you'll see the game has actually improved really. Loving my time in Tamriel and will continue to do so! Unless Sheogorath manages to cause more mischief!

Well even if every single person left ESO they would still have one person playing (me)

Those other games stand no chance next to ESO some people think this is just any MMO. Its an ELDER SCROLLS game with huge content that is always increasing. Which fan in their right mind would ever leave it for one of those lousey MMOs lol

Next anti ESO post on the ESO forums please.

I think the main reason it is still around is its free basically once you buy the box. If they still were sub based only I would guess it would have shut down by now.

The game will make it past the rough patch it is in. It has it ups and downs like any game. They player base online makes the difference. A positive base that encourages each other to get into things and be active is a healthy player base. When the interaction in the game begins to die off then ESO will be in trouble. I see it being around for many years. Bugs will get removed eventually.

It will be around for many years to come, it has improved and it will further improve over time. ZOS is a young team which does their first MMO, they made mistakes and learnt from those, they will continue to learn over time and issue will be ironed out over time. Some folks might leave the game for good, so be it, others will fill their place. The TES crowd will stay around, the pvp-centric crowd might get less - but that is a good thing IMO, finally it will become TES with friends, what it should have been in the first place, because that is where the income is and where the most loyal fan base is coming from.

Hasn't the OP heard? This game was killed off almost two years ago by Wildstar and ArcheAge.

Oh wait, no it wasn't. How are those ESO-busting games doing, by the way?

The biggest worry could have been Pathfinder, the table top version really hurt D&D, but due to the obvious money grabbing in the form of "We're in beta and need more money to complete" even though they well surpassed their kick starter target, Goblin Works has screwed that game over.

This game is going to be around for a long time although I think it may pull a guild wars on us and we get a ESO 2 ending the 3 banner war and coming up with a different concept for PvP. I just hope that they fill Tamriel zones first as there is still a lot of potential here.

I think that there is enough content to be added for at least 3 years to come in order to fill the still empty space in Tamriel, if they continue to do DLCs every 3 months. My guess is as well, that more and more people will subscribe and in the end it will be a voluntary subscription game and ZOS got what they wanted. To me the game is foremost about Tamriel,it's provinces and cultures, I am curious to see the territories, which I could just imagine in the past, but was never able to actually see. This is kind of a dream fulfilled, when I will be able to do that and compare them to what I imagined.

It's possible they have enough content for releases over the next 3 years. However, rumours started circulating that a 64 bit client was in development, on come Monday it'll be going live. Guild Wars had loads of room to be expanded, but they went for Guild Wars 2.0 instead. IC was slated for initial release, got that a lot later and at a price. So anything and everything could happen over any period of time. For all we know another game could be started for development after DB.

They do not just let Elder Scrolls go down the drain, it is too much of a selling point to do that. What could another game do better with the same team?- Pretty much nothing, the art team will still be great, the combat lead will still be - well I cannot even say what has to be said, because it is against the code of conduct - but there is the problem and as long this is not taken care of, nothing will change to the better. Another game with the same team will not do any better, but rather worse without the Elder Scrolls label.

The game is slowly killing itself. You can tell looking at the names of players around you. You can tell from removing campaigns. The more skill removed from the game the more the diehard tryhards will give up. I am one such player. About to reach the point of just not wanting to be here. The change to prox det is probably the most demoralizing.

But you draw the wrong conclusion that people like you leaving would kill the game, it does not, it makes it more what it should have been in the first place - Elder Scrolls with friends not against them. It will not be your kind of ESO, but it might be more of what people like me expect it to be.

Everything changes over time. Next week Big Boss Zennimax pulls the coup of the century and announce that they have resolved the issue of Fallout MMO licensing problems and production will go ahead with their now experienced Zennimax Online Studios forcing a restructure of staff. Warner Brothers decide that they've had enough of online gaming and sell Turbine, Big Boss Zennimax snap it up as Turbine have the license D&D and LotR and amalgamate Turbine with ZOS. @Worbel could go into nervous breakdown after discovering Crystal Frag doesn't stop a 24 man zerg from charging at you and heads of into the server room with a sledge hammer and smashes the place up causing untold amount of damage and the Big Boss decides that there is too much stress in game making and decide to change into manufacturing knitting needles instead.

City of Heroes was a huge game, and always had a healthy following, but the plug got pulled on that. I don't take anything for granted.

They are very quiet on their home page about a game that's due out in 3 months. It'll be interesting to see how it goes, but TES crowd is strong here.
