Personally I think they will make them character specific but I'd love to be wrong so all it takes to get alts to top level gear will be the 1-50 grind. What do others expect/want?

The devs have said this in forum posts when speaking about the eventual removal of VR system and replacing it with a system built upon CP levels. ✭✭✭✭✭That would be pretty shocking and horrible if they made CP character bound. It would make the game way more unfriendly to new players and new alts. Grinding to VR16 on a new character is horrible as it is. Grinding to 501 CP on every character would be far worse.6 -

Not only that, but how could they possibly introduce character-bound-cp at this point? I'm at cap, so all my characters would be at cap while someone with 101 now has to grind 400 cp on each character to catch up?

✭✭✭✭✭The question is, how would they split the CP if they chose to make it character bound? It would be impossible. That's the reason right there that you won't see it happen. That and it completely defeats the purpose of removing vet ranks. There is a very clear trend to make the game more accessible for alt characters.
1. Make it easier for alt characters to progress through alliance war skill line which promotes alts (coming next week)
2. Remove veteran ranks which promotes alts (coming with Dark Brotherhood)
3. Add character slots in the crown store so people can create more alts (coming "soon")
4. Profit
I'm not against any of this and can't wait for it to happen. With these systems in place, I can hit up the crown store and buy a new slot. Roll a new character, chug some xp potions (possibly also purchased from the store) and have an endgame ready character in a few days. Add on another few weeks depending on how much I pvp and/or run undaunted pledges. Only thing missing is my horse that I can only level once per day but the crown store will even take care of that for me if I'm in a rush. The bottleneck for an endgame toon right now is either alliance skills (if you feel they're necessary for the build) or possibly undaunted skills or vet rank grind. That's literally the entire reason they're removing vet ranks. So that you don't have to grind out all of your characters to max rank, and every character you take to level 50 will be effectively the same level as all of the others at level 50 on your account. Are you suggesting the game should be balanced for people at the CP cap? That's like 5% of the population if that. The vast vast majority are nowhere near cap. Balance for the 5% loose the 95%. It's not rocket science.0 -

Any chance you can link us to some of those statements? I am happy you and some of the other people who have replied seem pretty sure about this but I guess I'd be just kind of shocked ZOS would do something right and make things easier instead of more difficult. So to be able to really believe this change will be for the better I'd love to read a statement about it actually posted by a developer.

No. I didnt said player level. I said lorebooks and skyshards. Non combat things that are plain stupid to repeat. Or make Mages guild not linked to read and read and read.

Why does vertical progression have to come from vet ranks? If ZoS does a bit of outside the box thinking they can contiune vertical progression in other ways. Skill lines, gear progression, quest objectives. The list goes on and on. Removing one form of progression doesn't mean there will never be any other ways.0 -

Being concerned or wondering about it now is not worth the time investment because as the time grows closer to the actual removal of VR ranks, there will be quite a lot of lengthy discussions and current update information by ZOS at that time. Basically, it doesn't impact us now and wondering about the future is futile, so waiting until the time grows closer IMO is the best approach.
