If maintenance takes this long, imagine 3/7's TG downtime

Just saying. Although the PTS seemed to patch and be up fairly quickly with the TG update(s) NA has been down since 2 A.M. EST 7 and a half hours thus far. I'm jonesing for my ESO!

This isn't a normal content update. They are updating the OS on all of their servers.

Right.Usually it is one server at a time,and we dont get error crashes.I got one about half an hour ago when I tried to go into the EU server.

Look at the difference in what they are doing. Right now ZOS are upgrading the operating system on all of their servers, that probably means login servers, all the world megaservers (which are themselves clusters of servers) and the social servers. Think how much of a pain that will be to do.

Compare that to just patching, it's a much smaller job. Also this extended downtime is there to help prep for that maintenance when it comes.

It will probably be fine next week and they wouldn't bring them down for this length of time without reason. I'd rather they did it this week in preparation than do it all in one go next week.

As far as I know the 64-bit ESO client is not coming immediately with TG (for PC anyway) but in an incremental patch a few weeks later.

Broc, I never had any crash issues till I went into the Orsinium DLC content, then it was happening frequently so I started Googling it, lol. Turned out it was direct x issue for me. Had to edit one of the game ini files to read direct x 11 instead of 12 or something similar, sorry, it's been a while. Point is, my crashing stopped.

I mean seriously this update says crown store and server maintenance. If we don't have to download anything it means you're just performing routine checks that clear cache and cookie data built up in the temporary memory bank and clearing duplicate lines of code that may show up if something is spammed.

Honestly though who the **** do you guys hire to do these things because it seems and genuinely appears as if the entire staff population over there are mentally disabled.

The work they are doing now will hopefully make things smoother (and maybe shorter) for when the DLC update is applied next week - for the PC folks at least.

Where do you think he had the info from.... directly from a Zenimax quote (the maintenance announcement itself)... not sure how much more direct you want it....

but then again... you're entire post is very shortsighted... They're updating the server's Operating Systems... Still means we don't have to download anything, but it's a hell of a backend job for them...

As far as I can tell, having a long maintenance now is to ensure that everything is in place and ready for when they release TG, so hopefully on the day of release, everything goes smoothly. I'd much prefer to miss a few hours now, that servers to be down all day on release of TG

Did he say explicitly that they're not going to add Vvardenfell? I know that the loremaster Lawrence stated a lot of that area is desolate wasteland in this time period, and I'm sure I've seen Vvardenfell mentioned in game. One assumes that as its part of Tamriel they'll add it at some point.

Well a LOT of Tamriel is missing. I've always wanted to be able to walk through cat-land, Elswere or however it's spelled, and a lot of other places, Blackmarsh too perhaps.

Yes.When asked about it he said that it wasnt something they would be implementing.I cant remember his exact wording,but I do remember that his reply meant no Vvardenfell. Or,I wouldnt even comment about it. :}
As to it being part of Tamriel and was mentioned ingame.Yes,it was mentioned,and yes,it is a part of Tamriel.It was a long time before ESO times and would have to be added in some way that a time portal might work.
Vvardenfell is from the TES game Morrowind.An earlier one,my favorite.

I think he may have meant not implementing it in the near future maybe? I need to go hunting for that then. I can't see why they wouldn't add it at some point as its a part of the map.
