Why do people often type "Caldwell" instead of Cadwell?

I've noticed this since I started playing ESO. If you just search "Caldwell" here on the forums, thousands of results come up. You see it in game as well. Is it just a common typo? Was Cadwell's name "Caldwell" in an early version of the game? Or is it because it is actually a real surname more common than without the L? Just curious :)

Either way, he is a great character, and voiced perfectly by John Cleese no less! :D

I think it is just a common typo, like how some people spell "doleman" instead of "dolmen".
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I think sometimes people do not take the time to read and try to pronounce names in MMO's as written. At least this is something I have found myself and others I know doing. In the end we become comfortable with the mispronunciation and then going back feels foreign. Especially if the particular spelling or pronunciation of a name is somewhat foreign already then I'm more likely to come up with some butchered patchwork form of it that fits my tongue better and is easier for me to remember.

^THIS. When people encounter an uncommon surname, the natural unconscious instinct is to replace it in their mind with the nearest equivalent name that they're familiar with. I have an uncommon surname myself, and when people have to pronounce it or read it, they will often "convert" it to a more common (but similar sounding) surname.

I never saw people typing "Brenton", I think.

Now for "Deadra", I think I wouldn't even notice, to be honest. I hope I never wrote that instead of Daedra, but it seems like an easy mistake to happen.

People also mistake "Aldmer" and "Altmer" all the time, and I saw "Altmeri Dominion" before.
