What am I missing here?

I am a Vr5 NB Dark Elf from the Ebonheart Pact. I've literally used the same skills from extremely low levels all the way up to Vr2. I wasn't able to confidently solo any dolmen (apparently this is a solid way to ensure your character is strong?) at that point and still can't at Vr5. My DPS consisted of Rapid Strikes, Funnel Health, and simply heavy attacking. It was weak but I had some source of survival. I just recently went on YouTube and tried finding some guides as to how I actually play with this character but couldn't find anything really concrete. There's a couple guides on YouTube but they aren't newbie-friendly so most of the videos I've got no idea what they're referencing or discussing.

So, basically I'm at the point where I am literally dying on every boss fight unless I'm fortunate enough to have a charged Werewolf ultimate. If I'm not in werewolf form, I'm being 1 hit by anything with a special life bar when I'm down anywhere from 3/4 to 1/2 max health. It's embarrassing and it's frustrating when people the same level as me are soloing Dolmens in the Alik'r Desert at Vr4. What am I missing here?

Any help is appreciated. I would like to play without using Grand Soul Gems every 5 minutes. The guide I followed from YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRH_U22Oh88) seems to be pretty good PvP but was told it's also viable on PvE. I use random gear with +max stamina and +reduced stamina costs. I put all my stats into stamina and am following his skills to the T with the exception of Vigor because I've yet to PvP and the exception of Rally (currently 33 Two Handed, need 38 for Momentum to morph into Rally - work in prog.) I'm also currently using Werewolf transform in the ultimate slot because I'm not level 10 Fighter's Guild to use Dawnbreaker (currently 9 3/4). Is the build absolutely broken without using Rally?

/e Also, where the heck do I find gear like this? I've never seen decent sets leveling up, such as Nightmothers and Hundings rage. Do they create these sets? I noticed he said he has Xivykyn style on his NM and Hundings after someone asked which trait he used, implied as if he created them that way. I have much to learn and would absolutely love some information from you guys. Thanks!

Night mother and hundings are crafted sets. The problem you're having is that you don't have a self heal. The more comfortable you become with the class the less you'll die. Nightblade's are set up to avoid damage and get in and out quickly. Against groups of mobs things like mass hysteria might be helpful or pick a weak target with mark target and when you kill them you'll get a quick heal. You can keep doing this. You can use ultimates like veil of blades where you'll take less damage standing in it or soul tether for aoe stun. For your particular situation you need to get rally so I'd suggest 2 hand and bow. We will use dual work later but until you get rally I think this will help keep you alive. You could do something like this:
2h- surprise attack, killers blade, brawler, aspect of terror, dark cloak, soul tether
Bow- siphoning attacks, reapers mark, bombard, scorched earth, funnel health/power extraction/evil hunter, veil of blades

Brawler is a terrible end game skill but it gives you a damage shield based on targets hit. Killers blade will heal you if you kill targets within 2 seconds of using it. If you can do without this then use executioner as it wil get you to rally faster. If you feel overwhelmed you can use fear, bombard, or cloak to keep them at a distance. Magnum shot is also good for this., if you don't want to use brawler for aoe you can use acid spray as it will get buffed next patch. Steel tornado is ideal once you feel comfortable but these skills will help with your survivability. Starting an aoe fight, Mark an easy target, drop scorched earth, bombard and run in spamming brawler. For single target use scorched earth, maybe poison injection, then spam surprise attack-light attack, under 20 percent health use killers blade/executioner. I think this stuff should help you. If you have any other questions or preferences I should be able to help.

If you're on PS4/EU I can craft you some armour sets and food and drink. All of these help with maximising your output.

    What are your:
    1. Weapon damage and critical stats? As a NB with low health it's imperative that you get these up - the faster you kill, the less damage you take
    2. Abilities and rotation? It's important to maximise your output with these through ability synergies e.g. Ambush (grants 20% bonus damage) > Cloak (bonus damage from Stealth) > hardest hitting ability.

Thanks for the huge amount of information you've given me, man! I really like using this build I'm on now but without Rally I'm pretty much a glass cannon. I'll work on getting this.

As for the skills I'm definitely going to try them out and see how I like the style. I've never really been a bow person but I'll definitely try it out!

Unfortunately I'm on XB1/NA server, Sunburnt. It's a bummer, but I definitely appreciate the gesture.
    My stats are as follows:

    Weapon dmg: 1131
    Weapon crit.: 38.5%
    Physical resists: 7942
    Health: 9718 Health recovery: 355
    Stam: 19667 Stamina recovery: 1096
    Magicka: 10046 Magicka recovery: 591

    Abilities:
Main Bar - Surprise Attack IV, Piercing Mark IV, Mass Hysteria IV, Ambush IV, Steel Tornado IV, Wolf Ultimate
Buff bar (switch) - Double Take IV, Relentless Focus IV, Funnel Health IV (will be switching this with Rally when I get it.), Ambush IV, Dark Cloak IV, Soul Tether IV Ultimate.

Strat: I switch to 2h, buff up with Double Take and Relentless Focus, switch to DW, mark my target, Ambush in to stun, Surprise Attack then spam Steel Tornado.

    No problem.

5x Hunding's and 5x Night Mother's is what you want (incl. you weapons) although you'll only be able to activate the 3 or 4 trait bonus depending on what you're wielding.

If you can't find anyone to craft it then simply go to the relevant crafting stations with all the materials and copy/paste a message to people asking what you want. That's what I did before I could create the sets I wanted and most people are happy to help. If you get the set as purple (either improved by them or yourself) then this should last you until you're at least V10 but that's your prerogative tbh.

With traits and glyphs I'd advise using 5x Divines and 2x Infused (on the larger pieces) all with stamina.

From looking at your stats, your damage and crit are low but iirc, the above sets should get your damage to ~2k and your crit to ~55% which is good enough for your level. I noticed a drastic improvement in my output when I got these up.

Also, what Mundus Stone are you using and have you unlocked the Precise Strikes passive from CPs?

Your strat seems pretty solid and Rally will help you out a lot. The only things I can suggest are consider using:
    1. Ambush again before Steel Tornado for the extra 20% damage but this is minor tbh.
    2. Camo Hunter on your main bar in place of Mark and switch Mark to your buff bar instead of Ambush - then just quickly switch and in to Ambush

    CH basically gives
    1) extra 10% crit just for being equipped (this allowed me to swap my Mundus from weapon crit to damage without anything lost),
    2) 15% extra damage to vampires and werewolves (ww requires 1 skill point) when activated, and
    3) ~7k additional damage to any attack from stealth when activated

    Food for thought.
