Sorcerer Overload ultimate question.

So i decided to start a sorcerer because i was bored with my DK and NB. I pretty much have already found my skill rotation for DPS but i find Overload a bit of a mystery.
It says it drains ultimate when being used. I used it literally for the entire Pub Dungeon clearout nonstop and it is still FULL. It doesn't drain. Why? Is it broken or do i regen more ulti than i use up? If that's the case, it is very overpowered ability. It does more damage than any of my regular skills and can be spammed nonstop with no cast or animation times.

Some insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Overload "Draining Ultimate while in use" is 100% Accurate. Just because you had it on doesn't mean you were using it. It replaces your Light and Heavy attacks with Lightning based damage, light throwing heavy hitting single target bolts, and Heavy projecting a short range AoE Cone attack for smaller numbers over a quicker time frame.

Overload drain your ultimate when you use light and heavy attack, but also grant you the ultimate buff when you hit someone. While using only a few overload attack, you can keep it indefinitely.

I know that. what i'm saying it doesn't drain the ultimate when i was attacking... I cleared out a full dungeon by using only overload attacks (not skills) and it didn't drain.

Then that is a bug and needs to be reported with the specific conditions you used to achieve it.
EDIT: Disregard, as it was likely an addon I was using to show current Ultimate levels.

Overload is shown at 100% charge at 75 ultimate, but you can store up 1000. Unless you have an addon that shows how much ultimate you have built up it can seem that none was drained when in fact you were using it.

This is probably it, i didn't know about 1000 ultimate, explains a lot of things.
    Thanks for the info.

Foundry Tactical Combat. He's talking about 1500 percent not ultimate. If you're actively blocking blows while using overload you can clear a dungeon using it if you started at 1000 ultimate.

However, using it all the time doesn't lead to the best sustained dps numbers, or indeed necessarily the best spike damage numbers... so it would give just reliable dps without any effort - pretty boring imo, but effective enough.

Personally I use it to regain magicka and give me a third bar, or for focussing very mobile mobs or where I need to be very mobile without having to think about rotation.

    About Overload:
    1. If you will use sorc's reducing cost of ultimate passives it costs even less.
    2. Light & heavy attacks trigger 8sec ultimate gain, so using bolts actually gives you some ulti back.
    3. Using other abilities doesn't drain ultimate, but some can gain it.
I'm running same way ...whole public dungeon on overload soloed everything

I can sustain my Werewolf for for 15 minutes or more in Craglorn, but still it takes a lot of timed feeding and calculating how much pull to end combat and feed on time.
I would love perma transformation even if they would nerf attacks or at least run timer only out of combat.

Yeah, I just pvp really. So... WW is more of a liability than a plus. The self stun to transform, and then when it runs out... makes it pretty un-usable against anyone who's half way decent. Also, I find 1/3rd of the time that I feed off something, it doesn't even extend the timer. They just need to make it a toggle, and tone things down a touch. Maybe.

THIS^, pick up the "foundry tactical combat" (FTC) addon to display the "full" charge.

I dont know how much ultimate can get to the storage, but it is over 1500, because my sorcerer over ultimate cost is 65 and i can do max 35 light attack in a row.

So this is then the only ability which uses ALL the build up ultimate points, because any other ultimate ability for example needs 100 ultimate, but when 1000 points can be build up, I should be possible to use the ability 10 times, which unfortunatly is not the case...

Yep. And the only ultimate you can toggle on and off, and the only ultimate that gives you a 3rd bar that you can slot normal skills on and access any time you have more than 75 ultimate. It's very strange. I'm biased I know but I have to admit I love the 3rd bar. If overload were to be nerfed I would hope it would be the damage and not the utility, but I'm talking for my own interest for sure.

The "ultimate cost" is what you need minimum to activate overload, not the amount each attack uses. In fact, activating overload doesn't even cost any ultimate.
The maximum amount of ultimate you can accumulate is 1000. I don't know if the passive affects the amount of ultimate used with each attack, but without any passives my sorc uses 25 ultimate per light attack.
