What is the real difference between factions?

Based purely the NPCs I've interacted with in ESO:

AD: Has a lot of bigotry, not all of them are racist, but it's definitely a relatively common thing for them to be.

EP: a lot of beef (rightfully so) between the Dunmer and Argonians about that whole We-Enslaved-Your-Entire-Race thing, with the Nords on the sideline of it, constantly intoxicated.

DC: admittedly biased opinion here, but they seem to be the most reasonable (i.e they're not racist or ex-slavers) but just like with the other factions the norm doesn't equal the whole.

I LOVED playing through all of the factions, more note-worthy characters than any other MMO I've played IMO. I think a lot of it has got to do with the great voice acting/writing along with satisfying story arcs for all of them.

The Bretons massacred the orcs in many instances, and the orcs did so to them as well. The history between those two races is dark, bloody, and brutal.

All the alliances are dodgy and shaky at best.

By right, the EP should not be concerned about Cyrodil. They are fighting for their independence, not the Ruby Throne. Even the song explains that the only reason why they exist was to fight the Akavari invasion.

Don't care

Well, all alliances are implausible/unstable and have misguided leaders. Players are the same in all factions, of course. I have no preference for who I fight with.......or against. If it were a faction I'd rather join the fighters guild and hunt down the undead wherever they are.

Without the Any Race/Any Alliance unlock, the available races skew you.

Covenant has two combat races and a mage. Pact has a mage, a combat race, and whatever Argonians are supposed to be this week. (They're supposed to be the healer race, but... ugh.) Dominion has two stealth races and a mage race.

Their content kind of reflects this. Kind of.

The other major difference is the trophy achievements. If you didn't get a nix hound trophy leveling, as Pact. You're screwed now. Same for the Flesh Atronach drop for Dominion, IIRC.
