Is it no longer possible to achieve mages guild rank 10 before vet?

Just as the title says I'm leveling my alt on DC and I've found all my factions lore + cyrodiil+ dungeon lore and I seem to be quite a ways left (5%) or so. Anyone know if this is a glitch or something because you're able to get to level 10 mages guild before hitting vet (at-least I was on my main character).

You can for sure get meteor at lvl 45, as this is the minimum level you need for cadwells silver. However I've never seen someone with meteor before lvl 45.

I did this a while ago and ended up 20 points short of rank 10. It seems going to silver zones is required.

Can't remember what it was on my first few characters...it's been awhile since launch on PC

But it seems to take a bit into Cadwells silver to unlock Meteor...or says my alts

Yep, you can't get Mages Guild to 10 before completing the main quest anymore. It was fixed very early 2014.

At one point in time a person could get into Caldwell's silver without having completed the mainline quest. You would group with a person who could get there, and then teleport to them. AT some point a patch was made to stop this from being possible. I think I remember a video going with that picture and it is quite old (at least a year).

I also tried to see if I could do this for AD and also came up several books short. All AD, Mages guild, cyrodiil, IC, dungeon and Coldharbor books.

But, I did a PTS run and saw several blue books, so maybe the thieves guild dlc will allow it. And, if this is true we will start seeing a lot of meteors in bwb as well as proxy det after the ap reduction in the pvp skill line.

You can do this in your first faction area. I did when I originally leveled. Dungeons also have lore books and I ran every one at level (I guess that includes other factions as they open for you to teleport there after you complete your faction dungeon).

Is this maybe what you are missing?

No. There are not enough books in home faction zones + coldharbour + cyrodiil + dungeons. You end up needing a few of the exclusive zone books for silver or gold zones. You can look in your journal at Shalidor's Library and do the math yourself.

So either
1) New books are added to the library
2) There is a way to get at least a few of the silver/gold zone-specific books before cadwell's silver
3) A way to get mage guild XP besides the Shalidor's Library books

So far, I have seen no evidence of any of the above 3 things happen.

As for bwb, yeah, if there's det and meteor everywhere, and they remove CP, it's basically going to be exactly the same as azura. RIP blackwater.

I had just started cadwells silver, got a handful of books and was L8.5 and worried it was going to take a few zones. Then went back and mopped up all the sets id started including loads in Cyradiil and hit L10. Well worth the wait, I like working to unlock something rather than it all being too easy.

There are no new books. I have meteor on my sorc in bwb right now. I had to collect every lorebook from AD zones, coldharbour, group dungeons, cyrodiil and mage guild questline. After that I was 4 books too short and got them from cadwell silver zones on lvl45, which is lowest level you can get there.

Not sure how you would reach mages guild 10 before vet ranks. I recently levelled an alt and made an effort to collect every lore book on the way. Continued to do this into cadwells silver, eventually reached mages guild 10 in the 2nd or 3rd zone in silver. Every book dammit! Not possible imo.

Yes, Cyrodiil and your alliance zone should be enough to reach rank 10.

I tested it some time ago, and currently the minimum level for mages guild 10 is 45. When you collect all your faction books, cyrodiil and dungeon books, there are only other factions' books left. For me (EP) it was Auridon Lore, Glenumbra Lore, etc. At level 45 you can get the final quest and get to the silver zone. Just make sure you kill as less mobs as possible

Of course you can get Mages Guild to 10 before veteran rank 1. Why do some still say it's impossible? I've done it on 2 DC characters so far. You just have to start the Coldharbour quests around level 35 so you won't level up too quick from the mobs there.

If you get all your starting alliance books + all books in Cyrodiil and Wrothgar you would have exactly: 160/200and something for Rank 10 progress...

So you would be JUST over rank 9 and a half.

That means the moment you start silver and get like 5 or so books and finish a "collection" you will ding it!

(I realise my reply is late but I didn't see this post before, I did this in December 2015 so it's pretty up to date info )

HOWEVER - there are rumors ( I have not yet confirmed but I am currently exploring it and doing it ) that if you do not join the mages guild and collect all the above mentioned books that you will actually ding (just a rumor for now and not confirmed).
-source for rumor: a random forum poster mentioned this.

Will let you know when I am done
( might be next week, focusing on leveling that char for now and not really caring much about books )

not true. I just was in IC sewers yesterday with my low level and found a mage guild book just outside of the base in the big room in the corner. I know there are some in Orsinium too since I have found them there also. They are blue and glow and give Mage Guild rank increases just like the other Lore books do

Those are duplicates of some of the general collections that all factions have access to. Just like how some books can be found in dungeons or cyrodiil.

had this experience as well. i admit i did not finish all the cyrodil books, but it got to the point of needing "poetry and song"? and a few "dungeon lore" and something else, but there was no way they would have got me to 10

I always thought it should be possible to get MG rank 10 before cadwells silver and i read as such from others, but its seemingly not possible on PS4/EP as things currently stand (afaik). and a guildie had a similar experience.

Cyrodiil is where you find the books before you unlock Caldwell's Silver. So, you can get to 10 without stepping foot in a Silver Zone if you clear all the Lorebooks in Cyrodiil.

I have completed the Mages Guild Quest line at L27 on one character and L32 on another.

You can complete the Mages Guild Quests and not level up any in the Mages Guild, or level up the Mages Guild and not do one quest for them.

This is repeat but still...wrothgar/ic books are duplicates and if you collect everything before cadwell silver(includes cyrodiil and group dungeons) you will be 4 books short of lvl 10. This info is from under two weeks ago

Must be one odd bug. The total amount of exp you should be able to get per faction zone is 1365 (combining both books and collection completions). The total needed for rank 10 is 1380, so people should be 15 points short. It seems that i'm not the only one who is 20 points shore (which implies one of the collections isn't awarding its 20 point bonus) but that doesn't add up with this. Has anyone noticed you gain mages guild exp outside of lore book collecting?

They are some book in Orsinium and IC, but sadly you can also found these book in booth alliance area or Cyrodiil or dungeon, so they don't help.
I'm also stucked with a 90% level 9 DK who is like that since level 11 (level 30 now).
