Okay I know this has been asked for and has been discussed time and time again, but we do know that ZOS does in fact listen and respond to the community and it's suggestions (within reason, of course, as if they responded to every cry for buffs or nerfs nothing would ever get done). If we continually ask for something to be added to this game, I firmly believe ZOS will listen to the voice of the community. That's why I'm making this thread today, to say to ZOS that this is a feature many of us would love to see implemented.
Why Arenas for the Elder Scrolls Online?
I would argue that arenas would make a perfect fit in this game. Why is that? More so than any other MMO that I have personally played, skill and build can have a considerable effect on the outcome of a fight. A skilled player knows when to dodge, when to attack, when to heal, and it is exciting when two people of high skill engage in combat. It turns into a dance of sorts, it's elegant and beautiful to watch. This coupled with the level of customization of characters, just imagine the diverse builds that we can see top tier players put together for PvP combat. I could see potential for ESO to even be an e-sport. Of course there will always be cookie cutter builds and people trying to find an exploit (same as how in lower tier competitive play for games such as Starcraft have so much cheese (that's fon-to-due)), the high tier play will always be riveting and exciting displays of cunning, careful planning, and most importantly skill.
Arenas, thematically out of place?
I have heard this argument and it has a good deal of weight, or at least it did until Orsinium came out. It wouldn't make sense for a proud member of the Pact or the Dominion to travel to Orsinium to aid a kingdom allied with their enemy. It also made little to no sense to invite members of factions that are enemies to the Covenant to Orsimer lands. However, the prospect of exploring Orsinium with all of the content it offers was too rich to allow the region to be closed off to all but one faction. That was a case of content of the game being given precedence over what makes sense thematically. The three factions are at war, they wouldn't allow their heroes or even common folk to travel willy nilly in and out of their lands. But this was allowed for exciting content to be produced and left available. The same precedence could be given to arenas. It's exciting, arenas are fun! ZOS has a very talented team and is good at using the lore to their advantage and bending it when necessary for a fun game.
So what do you all say? Shall we have (yet another) thread devoted to letting ZOS know how much we would like to see arenas and dueling implemented into ESO?
