Maintenance for the week of April 13:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 13

[PvP] I'm not v14 yet. Do champion points mean I'll never be competitive?

    UPDATE 6 MONTHS LATER:

I actually have some CP now (~300) and some of you tried to convince me that CP aren't important in pvp? Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha haaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha

And some of you were running around with even MORE than 500+ CP back then hahahahahahahahahahaha oh my god it's too much wow

EDIT: Even when I hit the CP cap, I 100% support the no-CP campaign that's coming in. It's such an obviously critical thing to the life of PVP, which is also the long term life of most MMOs. It should have come a lot sooner in a perfect world. Or rather, in a perfect world CP never would have been introduced. But, live and learn right?

When you think of PvP, most fights are pretty decisive. This isn't because of champion points, this is because of a difference in skill. Someone with 100 points in mighty does 25% more damage with physical attacks; meaning instead of taking six hits to kill you, it takes five. If your skill surpasses theirs, even without the champion points you'll win.

some of the things that contribute to success in PVE and PVP:
    -gear
    -CPs and their proper expenditure
    -class+chosen abilities and their rotations
-mechanics understanding and proper skill use
-mechanic balance (skills, traits, gear, etc that ZoS can only modify)
-macro'ing knowledge, and their proper application
    -reaction time/capability and situational awareness
-group make-up (with the above applied to them as well)

    >>i didn't include "skill" because i feel "skill" is the culmination of the above with a slight inclusion of "group make-up" in that one must know their role within that category, which in the gaming world is considered "skilled".<<

CPs are critical to PVP and PVE a like, similar to how gear is within those categories. ZoS didn't balance them properly (per community request prior to release), and yes... its just like gear, you gotta have some and they have to be properly spent within the players need. no, its not the crowning necessity it is often claimed to be.
I will work. I will save. I will sacrifice. I will endure. I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost, as if the whole issue of the struggle depended on me alone.

This is getting blown out of proportion. Will someone with a lot more CP than you own you in PvP? Yeah, they probably will. Will they put up higher DPS than you in endgame PvE? Yeah, they will. Does that mean you can't still play the game and enjoy the hell out of it? Absolutely not. Can you still conplete all endgame content without 1000 CP? Absolutely. Tons of us cleared all of the hardest content in the game BEFORE CP EVEN EXISTED. Sure, it's easier if your whole group has tons of CP, but it doesn't mean that you can't still do it all with minimal or even no CP. Yes, people who have put in more time and effort have an advantage over you, but that's life. Don't let it discourage you. Play the game. Enjoy the game. It'll all be okay. I promise.

Op wants to compete. Everything will not be okay because OP will not be able to compete.

That's the whole point of his post.
