I know this is early but this is ZOS about housing

So my wife and I were talking about this. When housing or whenever you apply housing to the game comes out. My wife suggested that crafting such as woodworking and clothing would also be applicable to the things we could put in our house. We are aware that housing will be a good gold sink for you guys and we were just thinking that some of the items could be crafted for your house or in your house similar to that of Skyrim and how housing was in that game. That would encourage more people to farm and you could sell more stuff that would be related to a material base for sale on the crown store.
What do you guys think?

I'd personally like if housing would be done in a similar way LoTRO did.
Trophies and decor were craftable, purchaseable and dungeon bosses/questlines give some unique trophies every now and then for the house and garden. I think it was a very well thought through idea. If ZoS did something similar and pushed it a bit further, i'd be a happy bunny!

Egonieser - v16 Nord Stamina Dragonborn Wannabe
Endoly - v16 Tiny Redguard Sharpened MaceBlade
Egosalina - v16 Breton Cheesus Beam Specialist
Egowen - v16 Dunmer Whipping Expert (Riding crops eluded her)
(Yes, I had to grind all these to v16)

Using crafting towards your own house or decorations / furnishings is a great idea.

Blacksmithing 1 = nails for building -> Blacksmithing 10 = that wrought iron gate or a delicate glass chandelier.

I disagree. Housing should not have any crafting stations in them. Crafting stations are the main reason why the most popular cities are so popular l. It would greatly segregate the players. I do hope they release housing info soon. But I honestly think housing will either make or break this game. And I'm pretty sure ZOS is aware of this. So they had better knock it out of the park because their current dlc is garbage and broken. I can honestly say if housing isn't done right, I will walk away. Perhaps there should be a compendium of features that players want to see in housing? Thats a thread I'd like to see.

I always liked housing in MMO's. It gives good RP stuff and it's just a nice gimming. I had a player house in

    - SWG
    - Ryzom
    - Vanguard
    - EQ2
    - SWTOR later on
    - ArcheAge
    - BDO beta

Some people see no point it it, but in SWG I had my own little store where people came, bought stuff and sent me emails about the decoration I had and they wanted too. It's a welcome add-on for socializing when done correctly.

In the games mentioned above housing was used a lot for having a store, guildmeeting (in a guildhouse) etc.

And I just like to decorate and grow crops etc.

The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

I would love it to be similar to the skyrim housing as well. I loved building my castle and protecting my cow.

I would like a crafting station that made housing parts etc obv not set pieces

Would be cool if the motifs were important for house styling, too. We have what must be thousands of set pieces in dozens of cultural styles, I'm truly strongly hoping that they let us play with those and make completely ground-up customizable housing.

There are many crafting stations out in the wilderness as well though. Not only in cities.

Morrowind had some great mods for housing.Plus it also had one thing that Skyrim didnt have.An easy way to put down things you picked up.You just took it from your inventory and sat it where you wanted it.With Skyrim, you had to sling t hings off your hand and it just kind of landed wherever.I hated that.
As to crafting things for your home, there would have to be added a whole lot of items to the game so you could craft them.
What would be nice is if there were decorator merchants, and all items inworld could be static. This way,if you wanted, you could thieve them from houses. As it is now,we cant pick up plates,or those beautiful glasses and other things.Just bottles,or what is ON the plate only.
In MW also containers had household things in them often.Cups, plates, glasses and all of what I mentioned.

To me what makes or breaks it are 4 things:

    1. instanced housing, so that a group can enter it and have privacy there with each house having its owner's furniture choices and decoration, but houses do not take up too much space but can be grouped into small villages or town extensions.

    2. matching regional styles - not a mix of different cultural styles in the same location

    3. individual furniture, which can actually be used - including chests, weapon stands, dummies for storage/display. Without that the whole housing would be pointless to me, because I have all other already in the starting house in Daggerfall.

    4. not oversized - please, not an american style home, but a cozy european one - large houses are hard to make any cozy.

Crafting can be cool but I like my suggestion even more ( also has to do with crafting but no crafting skill required ) I will post a thread about it soon ( never have the screenshots on hand when I want to post it and the ss are quite important ) I am also VERY AFRAID of the backlash from the community as most would scream at me to gtfo from my suggestion I will mention you there so you can have a look and give some constructive critisism or share ideas since it sounds as if you would enjoy the idea

As long as they don't look towards WoW and decide that what we need is a Garrison type of player housing, boy did Blizzard manage to mess that one up on such an epic scale that I doubt anyone would be able to top it.

Wouldn't mind if the player housing made use of the crafting skills to make different things, a bit of versatility goes a long way.

In terms of crafting stations in the house, I'm not entire certain about that. It will have a rather negative effect on cities as people wouldn't have any reason to go into cities any more, as they could do what ever they need to in their house. A house should be more cosmetic and add to the RP element, not replace the need of ever going adventuring or do things in the world. Never liked that in WoW's Garrison housing, everything handed to you on a plate, no need to ever go into the world and do anything.

I rather have them using existing houses in Tamriel what we have now to be occupied by player. So you buy a house in Daggefall for example. And every player can buy that house. When you go to front door you press "F" to enter your house. Or you press "E" to get a list of other players who have their house open for visitors.

A bit like how EQ2 and Ryzom had it.

Vanguard also had a good system with lots you could buy. Those lots where placed in an area so if people build the houses they formed nice towns and villages (except on the housing islands where the bums lived). But if all lots where sold you could not buy a house (similar in Archeage)

SWG had place wherever you want housing which won't work in this game.

I think option 1 is also the easiest way to implement it.

Archeage is a good example for how not to do it - it was bad and most players did not get a home while others had multiple houses and house grabbing bots all over the place - íf it would be like in Archeage here in ESO, I would just not want a house and if it would look like that in ESO I would be so pissed that I would just drop ESO for good.

ZOS could learn a ton from the way building is done in The Sims3 and The Sims4. Seriously. I barely play those games because I spend all my time building the things I WISH were in THIS game. Building is FUN in The Sims. Then, if they're really smart, they'll open up an Exchange where people can upload what they have built and other players can download it and use it. This, of course, assuming housing is completely instanced and has an "outside" as well as an inside. If it's not, then obviously that probably wouldn't work.
