So, could someone then craft some armor using a really common style, buy a transmog scroll and change it to a REALLY rare style?

The way transmog works is you gotta have BOTH items, the one with the stats you want to keep AND also the one with the desired appearance. I repeat, you must have both items in your bag. They both must be equippable on your character. They must BOTH be of the same armour type (in most other MMOs this is how it is, so you can't mog a full set of light armour into heavy etc, results in people complaining).

The transmog system mentioned above uses the name of the system in World of Warcraft.

However, the stones part is currently how things work in Guild Wars 2.

In both games, there is the item with stats and the item with the appearance, that are combined.

There is also a similar system in Aion, where 2 items are combined, the stats and the skin. Simples.

I would prefer a "ReCraft" type function where you can take an existing piece of armor, the appropriate style and material pieces and "ReCraft" the item to a new style.

Same end result but more the "flavor" of ESO I think.

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

I dont like the idea. You cant really mix and match pieces if trying on each piece costs you RL money. Id rather have a vanity tab you unlock with a single 1k or 2k purchase.

then dont use them. It's not like Transmogrify Scrolls are hurting you.

As long as I can see through your transmogrify, that is true.

    this is absolutely ridiculous

All they have to do is make anything you transmog binded so you can't promise the elevator and give the shaft. Makes no difference in knowing what the enemy is wearing when you got snares etc so the only downside is somebody trying to sell false armor which is easy to negate. It's just changing the look of armor

    I disagree.

I should be able to take any armor I craft and make it function at end game.

To pay real money to change an armor I don't like to one I do, already in game...no I wouldn't waste my money on that.

I'd rather have a Transmogrify scroll that turns a player into a cheese wheel
