Serious question time. Does your Magicka DK NOT have Vampirism?

    Magicka DK, not a vampire.

I guess I am one of the few to roll a 5L/1M/1H build, as opposed to most out there rolling 5H/xL/yM, which, while it sounds like suicide ("ohmahgad no phys res instagib by stamblades, GG"), I roll a shield, a bunch of Impen, and a more than fair amount of health (25k). And I don't have to worry about camo hunter nor Dawnbreaker, and don't receive an extra 9% damage from all sources.

Which means the regen from vampirism is irrelevant.

Note that I was a vampire before Orsinium, but the nerfs to mist was just the finishing blow and the final reason I needed to cure vampirism.

I've played Vampire Magicka DK since mid-late 2014. I cured myself for a few months to try out stamina DK after Imperial City release, but didn't like it that much and started leveling other classes to VR. I just recently went back to Vampire Magicka DK and despite the obvious drawbacks, I felt like I needed the mobility for PVP. We'll see how it turns out...I hope Thieves Guild brings some appropriate class balancing.

I used to be a Vamp, but that was before I tried to run vCoA. I never really used the skills anyway as I never had enough room, so I don't mind giving it up.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

My only DK is a Dunmer magicka vamp tank. I've tanked vCOA, vElden Hollow, etc... While fire damage is a big part of it- you can still overcome it. (This is PVE, obviously)

    My question is this:

Do the damage mitigation passives from the vampire passive "Undeath" really make that much of a difference on a tank? I feel like they do... but has anyone crunched the numbers? I almost feel like being a Dunmer plus having Undeath pretty much negates most of the harm from fire.

    Thoughts?
Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.

I ask this because Vampire appears to synergise well with the Magicka DK, giving them access to abilities that helps keep them on their feet. Honestly? I haven't met one mag dk in game (not on the forums) that was not a Vampire. Why? Mist gives them extra mitigation while they gather composure seems they aren't as tanky as they once were, and bats for the huge heal because inhale just isn't as good as it should be.
ZOS should take a look at these skills as a tip when buffing DKs, so people don't feel like they have to choose Vampirism just to stay alive as a Magicka DK.

I'm certain there are some of you out there who aren't Vampires, and I'd like to hear your story. How do you survive? Primarily focused at small scale and solo PVPers.

Ill be making my DK a vamp next patch and switch back to a magicka DK ive missed play it so

If I PVP'd near exclusively with a Magicka DK, I'd definitely be a vamp. I like to PVE on my Magicka DK too though, and it's far less beneficial there.

Tank with Vamperism.....is...well...not wanted 9/10 times.

Most dungeons you would be a terrible tank...

DPS DK? Hell yea no reason not to.

Lol dunmer almost negates the Vampirism all by itself + 20 cp and vamp is negated. Go-ahead and cap it out at 100 and you take less than a normal person would.

I really think people exaggerate the flame damage to vampires its not as high as it used to be.

25% extra damage at stage 4 isnt that bad if you have two purple flame resistant glyphs on two items. It can be over 2300 more protection from flame damage and if you're a dunmer you get an extra 1500ish anyway so your disadvantage has almost become an advantage.

The only cost is you could have used your necklace or ring for something else but if you're taking the extra 100 magicka recovery can wait espc if you're with a good healer.

It does make a difference though. I'm trying out Vampire on my stamina DK. There's a lot of fire AOE from mobs there, and I'm certainly noticing the difference. I'm having to heal up a lot more than usual, and in some cases need to back off. Before I went vamp that stuff barely affected me.

Dps magicka dks are still extremely squishy as they must rely on melee style spammable abilities and vampire despite their undeath passive are still notoriously squishy.

I hear that the Dunmer dk Fire resist passive doesn't scale well past vet level either.

Make your healer's life a little easier and don't make your mag dk a vamp in late game content.

    Que?

Why would you want a tank that dies in fire 70% of the time?

No City of Ash, No white gold, no darkshade....

    -Tanks are usually DK's

    -Vampies take extra fire DMG

    -Tank needs to stay alive

= UNLESS you are a DPS DK, it is a bad idea.

Who tanks in darkshade? Fire is irrelevant on last boss. Just heavy attack and walk behind it and fire will NEVER hit you. Same for WGT?? Fire damage isn't the issue planar inhibitor well you can't tank it and far easier alternating between the group. It's only Skoria that would be an issue but a dunmer DK with 400 champ points plus wouldn't even see the difference with vamp fire weakness anyway. Days of worrying about this are long gone.

Depends. Are we talking Magicka Tank? DPS in PvP? DPS in PvE?

Tank: I would like to try a mist tank mag DK, but think it synergizes better with NBs. Maybe someday I will play around with ut. The nerf the mag regen while in mist form really throws a wrench in options.

DPS in PvP: Vamp makes you squishy, but Vamp certainly synergizes well. I will try it out after TG goes live, since unfortuantely mag DK sucks in PvP atm.

DPS in PvE: Hell no. I run at like 17.5/18k health and don't need anything to mess with my surviveability. More importantly, I wouldn't have room on my bars for a vamp skill, so would lose the passive regen buff. Banner is MUCH better than bats, and I would lose a DoT for one of the crappy vamp skill. Not worth it in my humble opinion

Edit: Sorry, missed this line "Primarily focused at small scale and solo PVPers.".

I believe in a recent ESO Live they discussed changing percentage based heals, like Dragon's Blood, to be more effective in Cyro (i.e. not take such a massive hit from Battle Spirit). If they do this, it will go a LONG way to giving Mag DKs some surviveability.

I'm a magicka DK (on my alt) and If I need to be tanky I just throw up a shield with absorb magic on it and we're good lol. People throw some comets and I'm like "Where oh I just ate it, it tasted good".
