    Worst idea ever.

I currently have over 11 million AP between all my characters. Not because I'm hoarding it, but because there has been nothing worth buying since the time they upgraded the bags to Vet14 and I spent 4 million getting Arch Mage gear.

They just need to give us something worth buying.

So they don't want to let us buy anything useful with AP because we all have a lot of AP because they haven't given us anything useful to buy with AP. That certainly makes a ton of sense (please note the sarcasm).

I still don't understand the need for any changes to AP.

The players who have millions of AP got that AP by investing time into the game. They're now told because of playing the game and content they enjoy they're not allowed to have rewards for that because it might be unfair on new players entering PvP (at leas that's my understanding of the argument).

The reason players have millions of AP is because there is nothing to buy with it, so they just acquire more AP and the issue gets worse. AP used to be cashed out on boxes/vendor items which would then be sold via guild stores or direct trades for gold which could be used to buy consumables (potions/food) for PvP.

The second argument I have heard from ZOS is that PvP players could buy all the new seasons gear and then have nothing to work towards. Again I feel this is an illogical argument.

The part of the PvP players enjoy most is PvP. Let's state that one more time in big letters THE PART OF THE PvP PLAYERS ENJOY MOST IS PvP.

I have never in my years of MMO gaming heard a PvP player say "Man I am so happy I have new gear to work towards to be able to compete at the same level again" most groan and sigh every new gear season at repeating the same tiresome process of grinding for gear before enjoying the PvP content again.

If the thought process behind this one is the gear chase keeps people playing I would say that for a PvP player that's not required, as again the statement above. For a PvP player the content of PvP'ing is what they enjoy, not the work towards being able to play that content.

Cyrodiil is a great end game PvP environment because it doesn't need updates (additional content wise) because it's a constant sandbox style PvP environment. Every night is a different fight and tactics/meta's change with each new balance pass. The game stays fresh due to changes other than additional content.

So in closing, if someone has stayed with ESO for the last year and a half and amassed millions of AP, why are you now spitting on them by saying "because you were here and loyal, you can't have things you worked/played/stayed for".

    @Wrobel @ZOS_BrianWheeler

@Turelus has nailed it here. Never in the history of my pvping on a game have I said 'yay' I need to grind a lot so that I can pvp again. Instead, me and most of my friends begrudgingly have done what it takes (or for lack of time, got by with what we had) and kept pvping anyway. This notion that we play the game to play the gear-ratmaze of inventory cheese is ludicrous. Honestly if I had my way, gear would be TOTALLY IRRELEVANT in Cyrodiil, or rather you would slot predetermined 'roles' or such. Either that or I'd want something along the lines of the way gear was handled in SWG (which I don't think its going to happen ever again in an MMO sadly).

Why are we saving up AP?

Why is there nothing to spend it on?

ZoS didn't bump up the bags to VR16 when the cap was raised to VR16.

So what is the cause of us saving our AP?

ZoS. And now they are concerned about PvP players having too much AP.

I know this is a great idea but I can't accept all the credit for it, they done this in LOTRO every dlc. You'd earn a currency for doing raids to buy new gear with, then when the next dlc came it all got converted to marks and medallions and you start over, for the exact same reason, so everyone didn't have top gear right away. I'm sure other MMOs have done similar things because no doubt they run into the same problems. So people saying dumb idea, you don't do this in MMOs, lol, thats where the idea came from. Its nothing new.

But it looks like the decision's unanimous, we'll carry on with worthless AP and no v16 gear from vendors. Its better that way after all.

I don't think you have bad intentions by posting this, I (and others) just don't agree with it. I'm pretty sure most PVP enthusiasts don't like what you're describing, that's more what I would call 'raiding mentality'. They're a different crowd 'over there' in PVE land. I've got no beef with pve land I do it too, but I'm just going to say they should reward us for what we do (PVP) which more or less stays the same, and reward them with what they do (PVE). Even then I think the content should speak for itself, and I'm not a fan of gear regurgitation, both logically and mechanically speaking. Logically speaking it drives me nuts that a Level 1 Sword is not sufficient to kill a Rat in most games, but a level 9,000 sword is the equivalent of dropping an A-Bomb. A sword is a sword - its not rocket science, or nuclear physics.

This argument is one of acceptance of the consequences of ZOS own failure to implement viable things for players to spend their AP on and improve their characters and enjoyment of the game.

This is not the players' fault.

It is the short shortsightedness of the development team that players would earn as much AP as we have.

It is not our fault they put a system in place that made it useless to HAVE AP - but reward us mass amounts of AP to earn ranks and essentially...buy siege with said AP.

Now, they have themselves in a pickle about gear that the elite PvP crews will have as soon as it drops in ANY CASE - regardless of cost. The above average PvP crews will have whatever is released within a week. The average PvP crews will have the gear within a 30 day billing cycle.

So, the real question is, "What's the point of not putting in VR 16 gear that is viable and reasonable competitive and purchasable for AP?"

Nothing - except developers seem to think that a gear grind is good for the game. They are wrong. They just won't admit it.

If they think a gear grind will mean more money from the crown store....they are woefully incorrect.

If they think a gear grind will mean more revenue in any form or fashion they are wrong.

However, if they put in a decent set of gear for the various builds that players would WANT to use....they create a new sub market that would be healthy for the game and begin to erode those massive pools of AP we have amassed. I bought a friend the staff motiff Akaviri or whatever...so I could have those staves - wasn't a drop in the bucket and have since earned ALL that AP back + 400K. Putting useful stuff in the AP store would only encourage people to actually benefit in some way from their time spent PvPing besides the enjoyment they already get from it.

The OP's argument is so flawed it's not even worth commenting on.

They should of made it AP = shoulders, Tel var stones = Helmets and make the motif drop from bosses in this new thief guild dlc / dailies.

They don't make any of the content that you need it to get anything.

It's not the players fault that ZOS gave them nothing to spend their AP on for months on end.

That AP is well earned and it's about time there was a use for it.

Nah man. the reason we have as much AP as we do is because they didn't add new stuff to the AP vendors After IC (V16) so we've had nothing to spend it on. an AP reset would just be a rip.

I'm a casual PvPer but I'm going to throw my vote on the pile of 'no's as well. Let me tell you why:

I enjoy PvP. It isn't my end-all be-all; I PvP maybe once a week. But because I do enjoy it, when there's something I want from a PvP vender, I want to earn it myself, not buy it off someone else. My first purchase was a pair of Rings of Cyrodiil's Light. Right now I'm saving for the Akaviri Motif. The latter, especially, is very expensive terms of AP for me; I earn maybe 25k AP a week, so I can afford a CHEAP chapter about once a month.

Now Zenimax promised us a new DLC every quarter, so about once every three months, with your proposed system, my earned AP will be wiped. We have about 13 weeks per quarter – I'm going to bump that number up to 14 to allow for a holiday or two spent PvPing.

That's 350,000 AP in a quarter. That's one cheap chapter and one mid-range chapter—but because my AP would NEVER carry over, under your proposed system, I would never be able to afford the expensive chapters unless Zeni has a space between DLCs of at least 4 ½ months, or I PvP more than I enjoy doing.

Now, I'm in this boat because I'm stubborn. I WANT to earn my Motif the hard way so I feel like I earned it. There are other people who are UNABLE to turn around and buy it off more die-hard PvPers. And how many casual or newbie PvPers who don't follow the patch notes will try PvP, see that their AP got wiped after a while, find out that was not a glitch it was a normal, reoccurring event, and go do something where their progress is saved? Even for people who know it's coming it could only be at best, an annoyance—'hey I'm only 5k away from my next set piece, the reset isn't until tomorrow I can totally earn that by then—oh, never mind, I need to take the dog to the vet instead, guess I'll have to start over.'

There is no good outcome from this, it would only add another layer of frustration to the game.
