How does spell damage work? and is Spell Crit a score or %

Hi,
1. I get spell damage adds spell damage, but what does the number mean? I.e. 6000 spell damage. Is that 6000 added damage to all spell/staff attacks or what?
2. Spell Crit as a percentage i understand. 10% means 1 in 10 attacks crit and do 50% more damage. BUT some sets list +650 spell Crit. Surely it needs to be a % increase (like mage light etc)

As for number two, the game has a goofy way of showing Critical Chance increases on gear vs what your character has. I forget the exact numbers (it might be on the page I linked) but the numerical values on gear become a percentage chance on your character. (edit 2190 Critical Points is about 10% or so, thanks for finding the exact numbers below)

Rule of thumb is, once your at 60% or so Critical, your going to crit most every attack anyway, as its a 60% chance to crit on each attack*. Sure you might be able to get slightly more criticals if you increase the chance, but you are much better off at 60% Critical Chance to instead take steps it improve Base Damage. More base damage, more critical damage too.

*I took a character from 60% to 80% and did not notice all that much more critical strikes at 80% than I was getting at 60%. However my over all DPS went up when I instead buffed base damage once I reached 60% Critical Chance.

Thanks @Nestor I think that's about the 10th time you've helped me! Ta HH also, 219 =1% I can remember! So Julianos is a 6% boost roughly (+600 x2)

Agreed on Spell Crit, I'm high 40's but been focused on magika & spell dam as priorities. I'll work towards 60 but no higher as you say.

I believe that varies from level to level. At v2, Major Prophecy increases my Spell Critical rating by 1580, but it's a flat 10% increase.

That is why I said ZOS has a goofy way of displaying the critical chance buff on gear vs on the character. True, it's a 10% increase, so why don't they say 10% on the gear or the buff? There is an addon for the PC that displays crit chance amounts on gear as a percentage.

They should really be consistent on this.

Didn't back in the day gear actually showed the percentage increase not value? I believe pre 1.6 it did... Or does my memory fail me?

Also, slightly off topic, but noticed when checking spell crit / damage....but why doesn't everything show on the character sheet? I.e. Some sets dont show and champion points changes to stats dont either (Xbox) is there any rhyme or reason behind that? Or a source of info on what is / isn't listed? Makes it very hard if you are a bit OCD and want to compare options!
