Quests - general impression

So, you get into region, and there's an evil going on. And quest by quest you see main villains behind it who somehow spelled everyone, and seduced them to evil ways.
Oddly though, once you resolve the villains off this world and break the spell almost everyone among main protagonists wakes up from a "terrible dream", and they were "completely unaware of their actions".
Like, in this general narrative, is it forbidden to have whole bunch of people generally leaning towards evil?
It happens too often, and there is somehow way to many oneiric elements in DC content.
Just a thought.
Not sure how is it in the rest of the game, I still have a long road head.
