I am pretty sure ZOS said they would add in new content like dark brotherhood and thieves guild a little after release for free. Now I come back to ESO after a few months of not playing and I see that thieves guild is a new pay to play dlc addition to the game....

He's basing this on what was supposed to happen when the game was subscription.
B2P changed it all and he's been gone for more than "a few months" if he doesn't know that.

They might have when it was a subscription game, because there it was said, that they did not want customers to worry about if stuff is free or not - but when they went B2P, this changed, of course it did. You cannot hold them accountable for what they said in relation to a different business model. With a new business model come new concepts.

They never said that. However, even if they had promised, it would still be true because the game required a sub at that time. Today you can still sub and receive the TG without any additional payment, exactly like you thought they promised. Nothing changed. :)

I also remember distictinly that they said they changed their business model and now future content is now going to be realese by dlc and that they clearly stated last year that theives guild was going to be a dlc. I also remember that this info is a lot more relevant than that info you stated. Hmm.......

That was probably before b2p... If so, you can just sub like in pre-1.6 and you will have access to all dlcs.

It's more than just the guild that you get in the DLC.

You pay for all expansions in every game ever.

If they said this after release then it would have been free under a subscription (as the game was sub only) and not really free.

As such nothing has changed in that regard, it's free if you're paying the sub.

The game changed to stay alive, let's not bash them for every little thing now they're rolling content out every three months and giving us good feedback and communication.

Any chance you're thinking of the Justice System? That was added to the base game, as they said it would be. You can kill, steal, rack up and evade bounties to your heart's content for no extra cost. That's fully separate from the Thieves Guild expansion.

I don't recall Zeni ever, ever saying that new content would be free after going b2p. Based on the responses here, you're the only one who thinks otherwise.

They were very clear when they changed the business model that new content will be behind a paywall, in the form of DLC bundles. That's the only way they'll stay in business.

    @andrewaziz2017ub17_ESO

Well that was indeed when the model was a sub based one. BUT Their new model actually works in your favor BETTER then sub based or Pay 2 Buy. The reason is simply because they give you the same amount of crowns you spend on a SUB. Thus you only need to SUB and buy the expansion then turn SUB off. This pretty much lets you "loan" The expansion and pay it off monthly vs a full 1 time upfront fee. This is actually a very nice system for people who cant afford to pay for things upfront and also keeps players in the loop so they dont fall behind the content while they try to get money for DLCs.

Most people will be jerks but yeah i get it. Most kids dont have money to afford dlcs and all that. More importantly when gaming is their hobby so ESO isnt the only DLC they end up having to deal with on a larger scale. So id say be thankful ESO uses this model to help players out.

If youre an adult without a job or anything I do have a suggestion. Assuming youre in a good guild or something. You can always set up a go fund me page to buy the expansion that your guild can help you with. Ive been in a few guilds where they would actually put money in a bank account to buy their top raiders etc the expansion so they didnt have to. That aside. Its not much and guildies putting in a dollar or 2 goes a long way. Of course you would need to have somewhat of a personal friendship with said guildies as some guilds might see it as begging and remove you. So plan with your guild leader to make sure its okay if that is a step you need to take and have him put it in the guild MOTD. If this is the case since you dont have a job then that means you have a lot of extra time to play so why wouldnt they want you around to play with them.

If its because on principle alone then all I have to say is their labor and upkeep does not come free. So you shouldnt expect it to be free. Unless if you had a job and went into work and they said for the next 6 months youre not getting a paycheck is ok to you. I mean most of us call that volunteer work which i dont think any of the devs are volunteers or signed on as volenteers.

They said they had plans for it, but then again, i don't ever recall them placing the words "new" and "free" together in that many occasions.

I don't recall them saying that, but if it was right after launch it was when the game was still on a subscription model. If you want to go back to that you can, subscribe and you get all the DLC's at no extra charge. True to their word.

Are you sure about it? I am checking the forums and fb page and eso live since they dropped the mandatory subscription and I never heard something about free DLCs, the only free DLC was Craglorn.
The only thing that I heard is that they plan to release a DLC every quarter, but I never heard anything about them being free.

As it has already been stated enough so you seem to be of longer absent than June 2015 (was it June or July 2015?).
You buy the game once and get Access to the Basic Content which is the Game itself with the Status before TESO turned to TESOTU.

so in this matter you got two choices.
    I) subscribe and you´ll get anythings you need without the need of additional payment, or
II) remain non subscribtion Gamer and buy each DLC, which is quite a usual process as one can find for hundrets of other Games as well.

What I clearly want to make clear.
ESO is a MMO similar to WOW (in my opinon even better than WOW). You MUST pay a subscription in WOW in order to play and you MUST pay for additional DLC´s which is NOT the case for ESOTU...

    any further questions?
