Isnt Thaumaturge wasted now?

I mean it doesent matter if your Stamina (phys) based or Magicka (ele+magic) based its always wasted!

Math:

Mighty = +25% physical damage - so if you use physical based bleeds you do 25% more damage
Elemental expert = +25% Elemental and magic damage - so if you use ele+magic based DoT's you still do 25% more dmg

so there is no need to limit yourself on only increased dmg on dot's when you can have increased damage on all abilities including DoT's

now i know you still have 30 points left but arent those better used in Crit Hit Magnitude...

i just dont see Thaumaturge as a valid place to spend CP into...

am i missing something?

EDIT: This is not a rant, just observation to potentialy change Thaumaturge while we still did not go Live

I'm not an avid pve raid kind of person, but I would expect DKs to find this useful, as the class depends on dots for their dps.

true but they are fire based so elemental expert would provide same bonus to ALL abilities and not just dots

I think this would only benefit specific DKs who don't rely on critical.

Yea thats what i figured but, thats straight up dps loss...and quite significant one...

50% crit chance + all divines shadow mundus + crit dmg from CP would benefit ALOT more than 30 points into thaumaturge which is around 10-12% increased dmg from dot's

not to mention you always spam 1 dps ability on top of dot's

It depends on the amount of DoT's you use. If you only use a few similar DoT's, you're better served if you use Mighty or Elemental Expert. If you use a variety of mixed DoT's, Thaumaturge is better.

Example of mixed DoT's:
Poison Injection
Soul Trap
Scalding Rune
Razor Caltrops
Scorched Earth

You appear to be missing the fact that champion points experience diminishing returns. Suppose that all your damage is based on DoT and you had 100 CP to spend in either Mighty or Thaumathurge. As you identified you could put 100 in Mighty to get 25% increase or 100 in Thaumathurge and also get an increase of 25% but more optimally you would put 50 points into Mighty and Thaumathurge (15.4% each) for a total damage increase of 30.8%. If you DoT based damage is say 50% then you would scale your Thaumathurge down correspondingly to achieve a more ideal champion point distribution. In general, magicka based characters want to optimise the following equation

where it is assumed all damage is elemental. The corresponding equation for stamina based characters is more challenging.

Templar Jabs, Radiant Destruction as any channeled skills counted as magcika and dot. So 100 Elemental Expert + 100 Thaumaturge for those skills mean 25% + 25% damage buff.

Thaumaturge isn't useless as the damage increase from each of the stars will stack with each other. Due to diminishing returns, you'd easily get more damage output from investing in both for DoT type abilities, which apparently includes things like Jabs and Jesus Beam on templar (so much for templars getting nerfed into the ground, huh?).

Dedicated DPS builds, like DK fire DoT builds, will still benefit more from Elemental Expert if they have fewer Champion points. Just wanted to throw that out.
