They couldn't charge that much per piece of furniture, nobody would buy it and there would be a mutiny.
Maybe furnish the whole damn house for 5k Crowns...but not buy a table for 5k Crowns.

considering that I bought the nord hero costume , I can safely say that some of those who want player housing with furnishings that provide storage or can be used to display "trophies" will pay 5k crowns or more for that stuff
Before I dive into this, I want to say that I am fully aware that Zenimax likely won't pick up on or incorporate this idea, and might not have a sophisticated enough system to pull it off, or (most likely) just won't see it.
Damnit, I'm still making the thread anyway!
So, to kick off, we know that Player Housing is now going to be a thing, its in the pipeline, Zenimax are looking at it.
But, we don't yet have any details, its a completely blank slate right now.
So, my idea is this: Pockets of Oblivion.
Basically, the concept involves the player being given/purchasing (through either Crowns or, preferably, gold) a small pocket-realm of Oblivion to call their own.
You would have complete control over this small realm, you could change the backdrop, the scenery, even the sky.
You could also craft (either through existing skill lines or a new one) furniture, rooms or set buildings for your realm, using racial motifs to determine the architectural style. Who knows? Perhaps players could even make pre-packed furniture and rooms to sell on the Guild trader to those who can't be arsed with crafting skill lines.
Useful NPCs could also be hired (such as vendors, guards, or just civilians to give the place some life) and an editorial feature could even be introduced where you can pick, say, the Guard uniform.
This is the part where the idea becomes interesting and useful: Let's say Zenimax do this, and everything goes smoothly, you build yourself up a little realm with people and houses and whatnot. You could then set small, repeatable quests up within your realm, these could range from a hard-hitting narrative to simply "survive X waves of goblins".
These repeatable quests could be completed by friends, or by any player who needs a slight XP boost. Obviously some restrictions would have to be set so that lazy folks don't just make a quest where you touch an object and instantly level up. Still, though, it provides a reason for people to visit and explore your own little pocket of Oblivion.
So, that's my idea. I'm under no illusion that this will be picked up, or that its even practical (I doubt it is), but I just thought I'd share it anyway and see what people think.

They're cutting it pretty close with it currently being M rated in Australia, if any more mature themes are added it'll be bumped to MA and most likely alienate a portion of the audience coming in because MA is a big range that includes some nasty stuff.

The housing system should promote player unity and reward those whom spend the time required to invest in a home. And above all, owning a home should be locked behind an eso plus subscription.

You'd get like maybe 1% (if that) of people being dumb enough to do that...the other 99% would demand we can craft furniture and get it all from drops, while the store loses out on all our money.
RIFT uses the housing thing to make good money on their cash shop, and they do this by pricing things quite cheaply so people buy whatever they want feeling they're not getting ripped off...yet ultimately this strategy gets greater numbers of people spending far more than they would vs having like three people buying one overpriced item.
Anyway, there should also be crafted furnishings and dropped items, just because those things are what makes a game fun. Unless we all are saying we want the cash shop to be the only source of anything that is nice.

crafting "furnishings" is unlikely to be added , and if it is they will only allow the crafting of decorative "furnishings" with the plans for them being sold on the cash shop . While the "furnishings" that can be used for storage or to display trophies (i.e. armor stands to mount armor sets from your inventory , or display the various trophies you find in game ) would be crown store only items at high cost(5k crowns or more) or they would require an active ESO-Plus sub to be used.
Do not forget that they need money from the cash shop in order to keep the game up. Everything in the development side of the game needs the generation of money from the cash shop to pay for it , that includes base game patches for new content , new zones(sold in said cash shop) , new skill lines , all bug fixes , and all of the game support actions .
