CC immunity after leting the CC lapse - does it exist?

Basically, title. If you don't break free but let the cc expire, are you supposed to get CC immunity?
In my experience in 90% cases you don't. I think you sometimes do but at that rate getting the immunity is more likely to be a bug than not getting it. I've been hearing contradicting opinions about it though. Would be nice if someone who actually knows for sure could clarify that part for me
