Is there a cap on what level an enemy has to be below you in order to drop an item?
Myself and my Mrs have gone back to an old zone in order to gather skyshards and not a single enemy has dropped anything in the past few hours, that's also including area bosses and public dungeon bosses. We're both around level 31/32 and the enemies we're killing around 28.

✭✭✭I think higher level mobs drop stuff regardless. But if you're 5+(you'll still get drops if you're exactly 5 levels above a mob, but not 6) levels above a mob, no loot nor xp for you.0 -

✭You're probably hitting the five level "cap."
It may have changed from what it once was, but if I recall correctly, then if you are five levels above the mobs, drops come in at a reduced rate. I know if I'm level 45 and I'm killing level 38 animals, all I get is the occasional piece of leather or hide. That's about it.
You're also not getting any experience. There is an exception for killing bosses for the first time. You still get experience for them; I don't recall if you get drops.
And it's a full five levels. So if your level 45, you should still get drops from level 40 mobs, but not 39.

I got "PL"ed once by guildmates in a silver daily with my lvl 45 char. Dungeon was in v16 (so they could have loot, they were already doing my part of the job after all

But were you doing any significant damage? Iirc, with player level difference >5 levels(?) there's a minor dps check in place and if you don't meet it, you don't get anything.
Though I think they might have removed that actually but I'm not sure.0
