Do physical and spell resistance apply to the damage taken by magical shields (wards like hardened ward)?

    When you have a shield up, you then have 0 resistance. None at all.

    Your physical + spell resistance apply when you don't have a shield up.

    Vampire fire vulnerability is applied to damage shields. As are some champion points like Elemental Defender and Hardy.

    Also I agree with @Erraln that damage in excess of your shield strength is correctly mitigated by physical/spell resistance.

    You have 100% resistance against being critically hit tho. Also, many effects the enemies use that proc on hitting an enemy won't proc when the enemy has a shield up(like bleeds, or healing from quick siphon).

    No, and any damage overcoming your shield(like 10k from a 20k attack vs a 10k shield or something) will hit you without taking your armor/spell resist into consideration as well. So be careful with dem shields;)

    Incorrect. Defense matters to damage which exceeds your Ward's strength.

    Well, this is interesting. Does that mean that the vampire fire vulnerability doesn't apply to damage your shields take?
