New monster set vendors, the unseen implications

At first I was totally on board with the upcoming vendors but I think there are some unforeseen problems with this. I have noticed a huge spike in AP farming. At this point PVP is completely unplayable. Even looking past the bugs, the lag, and balancing issues. One faction on every server has a massive group posted up at a tower or at choke points and completely wiping everyone with batswarm, proxy det, steel tornado spam. Not sure how ZOS can stop this players from exploiting this but it sure is an issue

Even before the announcement of monster set vendors people;e have been farming. People have been doing it like this for ages already. I am glad there is so many PvP, except today the lag was very very bad. But the PvP was fun today and i go nice AP which i will definitely save up for monsterhelm. And yes, i always have a stack of 5-6 of each siege type and got around 100 wall repair stuff. So i am not a hoarder.

The lag has nothing to do with the population. It is caused by the way the game calculates DoTs and skills that have ticks.

Or something like that in more fancy words.

If these farming groups are setting up in choke points are are unstoppable (I'm not saying that's the case) then that's a larger issue with the pvp part of the game as a whole and monster helms don't have much to do with that. It's happening now and it's happening later. IF a change is necessary it's with the core pvp mechanics and rules and stopping the release of monster sets won't make any impact at all.

I think what the OP is stating is that there has been an increase in players fighting dirty to attempt to farm AP prior to the AP gain changes and prior to the monster helm vendor.

I think the concern is that people are more and more attempting to game the system and overwhelm the server to try to affect the combat outcome. I.E. hit the server where it hurts... right in the calculator.

The lag war eventually creates the Bishop to Refrigerator 4 effect that you are witnessing on the forums in numerous threads.

OP i get where you are coming from and I only think people are saving their ap differently. I think this because before the announcement people are fighting for all the ap they can get anyway to get vigor, proxy det, and now that I'm at 7 i just want 8 9 and 10 for those passives.

so i think the AP farming maybe slightly increased but not that much.

At least when we get the siege weapon damage updates, we may stand a chance against organized zergblobs who camp out to farm AP.

if they would make taking and defending keeps and scrolls worth way more AP and decreased the amount of AP you get for kills you might see far more strategic play.

everything can be incentivized to promote the style of PVP the ZOS wants, they simply have yet to do so. as long blobing is the most effective tactic, people will blob, as long as holding a choke point or tower and farming players is the most effective way to get AP, that's what people will do, etc.

PvP in this game already is beyond repair.
- lag beyond repair
- not working skills beyond repair
- broken class balance beyond repair
- next point: PvP buy to win PvE monster sets

Most PvE people I know grind it to get the magicka detonation,
then get the hell out and never touch the broken PvP it again.

This is why I think end of campaign rewards should be a decent amount of AP rather than items, gold etc.

thinking about it, im happy theyre adding the monster items to be bought, pledges and PUGS are so unreliable and your depending on someone elses skills to get through, not just your own. I was blessed with guildmates who were cool enough to run with me, even though they already have the pc's, but after what I went through to get a valkyn helm and dealing with RNG on top of it, this is a welcome sight.

Think it's bit on an over worry. Most people only really want one or two items and that'll be it. Once it's been out for a few weeks it'll die down. Let's face it..not everyone is going to farm ap to buy several bogdan or bloodspawn sets are they?

You forgot about collectors that have to get 1 of each just because and also people with alts. Additionally, they gotta prep for the new character slots they'll get eventually.

Most people have plenty of them by now. I need just 2 items now. Most of them are useless and I wouldn't think people will chuck 100s of Ks of gold at them just to have them. I just can't wait for the hate threads to pop up on here straight away about cost / random traits etc. ZOS will never win.

Agreed. I think many people who want them have them already. The only I can see being of use overall is Engine Guardian. Others are more class or situation based but the guardian set is well rounded. But, if the helm comes in a bag with a random trait I would be very upset not getting the trait I wanted after spending several hundred grand ap/gold or more to get a useless item.

I already have all the sets, how many do I use..? Only Kena shoulder..... Most of the sets, in my opinion anyway, are incredibly situational as already stated by others... There are a few decent ones but the majority require the correct weight/traits to be better than standard set bonuses..
