Just bought every single Mercenary Motif and have now learned it for every piece of equipment in the game.

Oh.You need 'Laurels' to craft them and they only drop from dungeons. I don't really do many dungeons.

No matter I'll just buy some from a Guild Trader, I've got tonnes of gold after all... Oh. They're bound on pickup.

Whhhhhy? I'm not complaining about my small loss of gold to the Motifs but the fact that laurels are bound on pickup. Just punishes crafters in the game who don't do dungeons. I spent 90% of my time in ESO running around Orsinium gathering materials and just exploring and relaxing. And I can't get an item at all without doing dungeons.

Selling them in the Crown Store would be nice, I guess but I'd rather there weren't so many items that are Bind on Pickup.

You can buy crafted items from other who have laurels to decon as a method for transfer. It's a bit of a gamble but often works.

Well, another thing I didnt know about the Merc motifs. Amazing the things you arent told about then, and only learn AFTER you have paid large amounts of money for them.Since I have never even seen a Laurel,I wont be buying any more bits of the motifs. In fact, since there are no instructions when you buy them,..I wont be buying any but the basic motifs from now on.

The bind-on-pickup needs to go. Seriously. You can't even offer to make it for anyone else as they can't send the laurels to you either. Even though I do quite a lot of dungeons, I still don't always get a laurel drop, even though I know the whole motif.

However, they are introducing a universal crafting material in the crown store that can be used on any style anywhere. Still means paying real money for it, but at least it is more obtainable.

Really, though. BoP needs to go. It's a terrible idea.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend, my Shining Light. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

Without trying to offend you in the least, perhaps prior to buying a motif you should try to find out about crafting in it - such as what level you need, where you get the stones etc. Unfortunately it is often the case in ESO that you need to find things out yourself(including many situations where I do believe the info should be listed somewhere very noticeable) so it makes sense to do so ;)

That said you can indeed deconstruct Merc items with rather high success chance it seems, and they're also really easy to farm. You get 1 Laurel with 100% chance off the last boss of any group dungeon if you know all merc chapters. So you could easily farm downscaled vet Spindle or something.

EDIT: Edited because I forgot the 100% is only in vet dungeons. Still though, doesn't change much, you can downscale and rush through first tier vet dungeons in like 15 minutes.

That will be because you are running normal dungeons. If you do veteran dungeons and you know the whole motif it is a guaranteed drop. So either that or you are lying.

Well since you have the full motif you "theoretically" have a 100% chance to drop the lauriel so if you need to craft a piece just do an easy run like vet BC and you will come out with the maths you need... easy as pie.

And it will take only 20 minutes.

No,no,..no offense taken. However, there are many newbies,(which I am not though),who would benefit from some sort of information in the little window when you mouse over the motif. I AM rather a newbie at these newer motif chapters stuff. I just dont think there should be such a lot of work to find out what levels, points, etc are needed tro use an item.Especially if one is going to buy it with crowns they bought with real money.

They said that there will be a 'universal' style mat that will be in the crown store soon. You can craft any style with it.

They said that there will be a 'universal' style mat that will be in the crown store soon. You can craft any style with it.

Hopefully, that will alleviate some of the BoP thinking on style crafting materials. As long as the Crown crafting material is different from the non-Crown crafting material, they don't have to worry about people trading non-Crown items that are named the same as the Crown ones. They made a reference while discussing this on ESO Live Jan 15 that makes me wonder if they have that in mind.

"This will also allow us to stop making players jump through weird hoops in order to keep Crown items un-tradable."

I have to wonder whether the BoP style materials will become tradeable.

Although, Laurel might be a special case of BoP. Given that there is a trading restriction on it, it makes the crafter of the equipment a critical resource since the style material is only available to them. This definitely puts the craftsman into crafting and maybe that is a good thing, in limited quantity. One thing that is apparent in this game is that there are few opportunities for the real master craftsmen, people who can make items that most others cannot. A lot of the "rare" stuff is hidden behind grinding against the RNG. Laurels are also hidden behind an activity and knowledge.
