Lol. This whole thread lol. ESO gets a lot of criticism. Some of it is overblown and ridiculous but a lot of it is deserved. Instead of creating a hugbox thread for yourself, and collectively re-affirming how awesome this game is (to keep the cognitive dissonance away before you start to question the time and money you have invested), you can realize a few things:
    • If you mainly PvE in a casual fashion, and you think this game is awesome, immersive, relatively bug and lag free, and a really unique experience, then you are RIGHT. Yep, you heard me correctly. This game is perfect for you. It makes no sense to you why others bash it so much.
    • Casual PvE is in a really good place at the moment, it is mainly bug free, usually doesn't lag, and has tons of content. But if you step outside your little casual carebear bubble, people's experience with this game (from both a hardcore PvE and hardcore PvP perspective) begins to change. Cracks begin to form in the user experience at endgame levels. In PvP, those cracks become chasms.

PvE and PvP are two completely different games, with two completely different user experiences. If you never step foot in cyrodiil, never experience the crippling lag, laughable imbalance and bugs that persist for months, then your gaming experience is completely different from those who play Azura's day after day. You will never feel the neglect and betrayal the PvP community feels - when we get ignored and marginalized by the development team.

It is meaningless to judge this game on the basis of PvP or PvE, it is night and day different. I can give plenty of examples.
    • Report someone trolling your RP event in PvE? They get banned or warned in minutes. Report someone exploiting, hacking, breaking spirit of the game in PvP. Nothing happens. Put video of exploiter up on forums? YOU get forum ban. It is almost impossible to get a ban doing anything in PvP. It's a cheaters paradise.
    • I would also like to comment from a PvE engame raider's perspective but there IS no PvE group endgame raiding. Trials and DSA haven't been endgame since IC launch when ZOSE refused to update them to VR16 in order to sell more DLC and force people to grind in the IC for gear. Plenty of endgame PvE raiding guilds have dried up and gone elsewhere.

None of this is a condemnation of ZOS really, ZOS seems to have found their niche. Single player casual PvE, that like to be in a zone with other single player casuals. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone wanted this game to be co-op skyrim anyway. Now they get their wish. If that is the easiest demographic to please, and there are tons of them, then why not? Just realize that this game had SO MUCH potential for both PvP and PvE raiding, and has not delivered on either.

TL;DR: OMG BEAR MOUNTS ARE SO AWESOME!!!

I still play this game daily.

While there is a lot of amazing stuff about the game. But it still does deserve negative comments.

Pvp is broken. The lag on xbox is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in a game. For real, it's despicable.

Months for fixes. We wait ages for well known fixes. Often game breaking things.

It's not totally devoid of bad things.

MMORPGs have always generated extra hate or attention, or then its just envy-ness, we got a game, they didnt. I remember when ESO was lauching, they had tripled their FB fans compared to Skyrim, that should speak some volume, Skyrim was insanely popular but ESO topped it before even launching.

The problem with those comments is that they are almost entirely related to the PvP perspective. There are a lot of MMO players who have no interest whatsoever in PvP, not least in a TES game, and many of whom simply won't recognise the problems with the game that you describe because they've never encountered them. It may very well be "one of the best MMOs they have ever played" from their perspective, even if it is not from your perspective.

Strange thing is, i have yet to meet a player in ESO who at least from time to time dont play PvP. I would love to see where all that comments about 95% of players being pve come from.

Well now you have. I never PVP, not even a little. Granted i hate trying to get the shards in Cyrodiil and of course i get one shoted ( sorry i mean dead before they get off their horse by 4 wrecking blows etc etc) all the time but that doesn't count since i never get a chance to fight back. I don't see the point in even trying honestly. I only go there because i have to.

I use to be a bit like you OP. The road ahead really left a bad taste in my mouth though.

Things we were told when ESO was in the depths of despair. You know around July 2014? Those things were proof to me that ZOS was dedicated and determined to make ESO not only succeed, but also be innovative and more than the run of the mill quest/dungeon/raid grinder.

It turns out those innovative, exciting things that were said were just talk. Talk to keep us hanging on. Talk to keep people like me and you paying and defending ESO. I kinda feel like I was duped. I'm pretty resentful at the moment.

    Took you long enough.

    Agree

I have moved on to another MMO for my PvP fix. Myself and a portion of my guild are PvPing elsewhere. Many of us would prefer to be in Cyrodiil, but the lag, bugs, glitches and imbalance (small extent) have caused our exit. I still hop in and manage the other side of the guild and a portion of the guild enjoys the PvE single player (never interact with anyone) game play. Unfortunately even the PvE side has become stale for me. Until ZOS puts in more options for guild/player interaction and features, even PvE is not cutting it for me!

LMAO I love this argument. I really do. 'Ive played enough MMOs and its only acceptable [insert arbitrary year here]"

Who got together and decided that that was the year it was going to stop? When did we as the MMO Community get together to decide that or force it on the Game Industry? What? We didnt? Okay then.

Lag happens. Its not all one thing. Lag is a buzzword used by gamers and internet users to describe a multitude of things. 2004 or 2016 it doesnt matter.

Imbalances. Welcome to MMOs. There isnt an MMO out there that is perfectly balanced and there never will be.

Bugs. Games this diverse and this complicated will always have bugs. Any time youre dealing with a game with millions of lines of code. You will have bugs. No one in 2004 decided that was the year writing immense amounts of code was suddenly going to become perfected and bugs would be a thing of the past.

I actually agree, I've been very impressed with the voice acting, quests, open areas, diversity in skills, crafting.... Etc... If I'm ever bored I can do something else in the game. There are good trophies in game as well. I'd admire someone for getting master angler or having finished exploration achievements. I could go on and on about this game. I would prefer it continue w/ new cinematic trailers and content for a while.

Now I have a fulltime job and family to take care of. This may be a return in bitterness, but perhaps we can just leave with an understanding that some just have too much time on their hands and need to keep non-constructive criticisms to themselves.

Much love to my gaming fam.

It's funny thou. I have a tendency to see the breaking parts but also suggest how to improve them, thou a company like this should be able to do it themselves. Now that a couple of years has passed, seems most agrees with my points but when the game was new and hyped very few saw them. Was it ignorance and willingness to simply have a great game or something else? I'm paid good for being a business dev (banking, insurance, funds) and perhaps I see patters others do not or perhaps I'm just getting old, 34years btw, and gamers today are young and have not seen as many companies fail and make mistakes as I have.

Looking at the start of this game with magica, stamina, weapon crit, spell crit and how that part worked, and how most loved it and hated me for pointing out flaws, then some month go and they change it all and it's basically still the same but with some minor improvements, it's a huge let down. This game could have been great but was flawed at it's core.

This happens to a lot of games. Entitled kids that demand the game to go free to play!

A few days ago there was a thread started on steam community hub for ESO where some person demanded ESO to go "f2p". That person had 3 VAC bans and was playing a lot of GTA V online. Put 1+1 together and you'd know why s/he wanted it to go free (hint: create free account, cheat, get banned, create new free account, repeat).

I hope they never go free-to-play, as from my experience all games that have eventually become that had awful communities in the end. For some reason free-to-play brings a lot of awful people (awful as in mean, immature, cheating etc).
