Winteborn set on sorcerer.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has tried this set with a sorcerer using force pulse (hits with all 3 elements every shot) as their spammable attack to proc shards with elemental damage champion points and if you have how effective has it been? I'm hoping to try it out with julianos set and either molog kena or nerieneth monster sets but haven't been able to get the rings yet to test it yet.

Garbage. The only skill I can think of that is Ice/Frost damage is crushing shock and then obviously Ice staff or ice enchantment.

That's the only way I see it working, using a Frost staff and light attack weaving hoping to proc the effect.

It seems too minimal to be effective and I gave it a half assed try but found I was losing too much spell power by having to drop the 5-piece bonus from Julianos because I don't have the Winterborn rings (do they exist?)

Even then, using the rings instead means killing off the 3 x Willpower set bonus.

It doesn't seem worth it.

Can be good for pvp as snares are strong there. For pve it's most likely worse than willpower + molag kena + julianus

I use force pulse all the time, which does fire, lightning and frost damage, so should proc it, was also thinking of taking a frost staff for a proc chance on medium weaving, I have some winterborn rings but I got them with my other characters which are rank 16, my magic sorc is only rank 3 so can't use them yet.

My original plan was willpower jewellery and 2 turogs but kinda hoping this is viable if for no other reason than to not be the same as every other sorcerer.

It's not worth replacing Julianos/Kagrenacs for Winterborn. Definitely not going to increase DPS. However, it is definitely worth it if you can get the jewelry (which you won't until ZOS ups the drop rate. My 50+ runs have awarded me 1 amulet and 0 rings!). I've tried it out by using my V16 Legendary Nirnhoned Ice staff and weaving light attacks in with Crushing Shock. It is fun, and I actually recommend trying Destructive Touch, Elemental Ring, or Wall of Elements with it. They all work, with DoT effects causing procs often. Unless you're dedicated to an Ice mage build like me I would not bother though.

My dream setup:
5x Julianos
5x Winterborn
1x Molag Kena

Wasn't planning to drop julianus, ideally it would be the set up you suggested at the bottom, most of which I have found in other characters (I've run normal maelstrom far to many times)

It's fun to play around with. It's pretty much a PVP set- there are much, much better options for PVE. In PVP, it's definitely unique and will make you stand out from all the other cookie cutter builds out there. Also, it's not super weak- it has magicka and spell power set bonuses. Basically, it's a fun build that won't make you incredibly weak.

The downside is obtaining all of the pieces. I think I'm at 15+ Maelstrom runs and I still don't have a single chest piece drop, but I have all the other pieces (mixed traits).

Yeah, getting the right traits its always a nightmare, my stamina sorc uses briarheart and though I've got all rank 16 parts including jewellery some are not ideal, reinforced, healthy etc.

It doesnt procc on shields wich makes it useless vs sorcs and very ineffective vs alot of magicka builds.

What about winterborn + Nerieneth + willpower + maelstrom?

If my maths are ok, each 5 or 6 attacks you should be calling the pillars/cristals

I have been using this set on my Sorc along with Skoria helmet. Its really fun and does nice extra damage!

Its fun you can drop willpower for it if you go full ice

I ran with a sorc using a Maelstrom Ice staff and 5 piece winterborn the other day. I was on my traditional Kena/julianos sorc. I was beating him single target, but his AoE was better than mine. Only experience I have with that set. I do plan to mess around with it if I ever get a malestrom ice staff. Its the only possible use I can think of for that thing.

@Steel_Brightblade Yeah normal Maelstrom is farmable but without a GUARANTEED (Plz ZOS) Stage 8 jewelry set piece drop your chances of getting what you want are unbelievably low. First, it needs to drop this rare jewelry. Then it needs to be in the correct set (forget about traits).

For me: Multiple copies of every possible Maelstrom set piece, all amulets... zero rings...

To put it in perspective, my Sorcerer has now leveled up every active skill in the game (except for those in one hand and shield, two handed, bow, and dual wield which I may begin to work on) into their Rank IV morphable states, with over half of them with a Rank IV morph. I've done pretty much all of this by slotting 2-3 random active skills to level up on my bar during normal Maelstrom runs.

RNG certainly doesn't favor me, and my 8-9 vWGT completions also have neglected to award me a Molag Kena helm :-(

But yeah, Good luck with your RNG!!! One thing that you gain from this arena that isn't luck-based is a ton of experience, so it's not all bad.

Hehe I agree, tend to be lucky for most pieces except monster helms, have one of those annoying guildies that has got a helm almost every dungeon he walks into.

@Steel_Brightblade I recently completed Vet White Gold Tower again with a PUG group. One guy had never run it before. After an hour or so Molag Kena was dead, and he picked up a Medium Divines Molag Kena Helm. I got another purple staff.

I'd like to know what percentage chance you actually have to get a Monster drop.

Could be interesting, the guildy I mentioned got engine guardian, molog Kena, nerieneth and the wayrest sewers helms on his first vet run of those dungeons. Only ones that seem to be evading him are the banished cells and blood spawn helms.

@Steel_Brightblade The RNG simply favors some people. My luck is pretty great with monster shoulders. I have two purple Divines Engine Guardian Light shoulders, and two purple Divines Heavy Skoria shoulders. Only took 5 gold keys!

Lately I've started saving up keys. I will wait until I have 30 of each gold/silver keys and then post my results in a thread. (currently at 9 of each). Oh, and I'll continue to farm vWGT for that Kena helm in between pledges. It'll show up one day... unlike my Winterborn rings...

You have to stack many DOTs or use Wall of Elements to make the proc crazy high. The 2,3,4-piece bonuses are great, so no matter what you aren't going too wrong by using this. Hopefully you like the set (I love it). You lucky RNG person you..... I'll continue to farm for it, but now I am just a lil bit more hopeful that they exist.

ive ran a full set for PvE and was on a par-ish depending on luck (afaik without addons). considering it cost no materials to get. fine for an alt definately

ran elemental drain force pulse, wall of elements and destructive reach. (not all at once necessarily dependant if trash/boss which i took, was awaiting a maelstrom ice staff to really see how nicely it synergies)

I just wish i knew the impact radius on the ice pillars you proc.

I'd think the radius is around 5m, maybe a bit less though, like the Planar Inhibitor's little fire AoE's that burst from the ground.
