Killing civilians

Can killing civilians in towns lose potential quests later in the game ? I went to pickpocket someone in wayrest, got caught and attacked by him obviously, so I thought *** it I'll just kill him. Now he's dead I'm presuming he doesn't respawn, and given that is the case, is there a chance I've lost potential side/small quests down the track?

No. At most it can delay your progress due to you not wanting to risk getting killed by guards but everything respawn and everything respawn. (And as nian said, Quest people and vendors can't be killed/pick pocked)

Not like in Morrowind, where if you kill a quest person, you change your game.It will warn you though.

I have to say the fact important NPCs are immune in ESO is very helpful. I remember in my first Skyrim playthrough I got caught looting in the Alchemist shop in Riften, killed all three people there, and forever more had one less shop to use. Since I also managed to not get caught while framing the Argonian merchant in the market, and he did actually go to prison, I seriously damaged my future equipment clearing possibilities in Riften...

During my first skyrim "playtrough" I failed the first quest. I went rampage in rivenwood (fisrt town after you fled the execution) and accidently killed the girl i should have turned in the quest to. Then I also accidently killed a guy I needed for Fus roh dah line, and the smith. (I think the imperials were right trying to kill me seeing how much of a psycho i was there)

Yeah I'm the same boat, my first skyrim experience I killed a chicken, had the town after me, killed who I could before dying then realised I *** up and restarted my game lol

I also killed the only lock picking(or was it the sneaking one?) trainer when i tried pick poket the khajiit caravan outside solitude. The girl refused to let me go so i killed her. (Her corpse is still on the main road of solitude over 4 in games years later)

Dark moons upon you! Roads are full of aggressive mobs, why do you need to kill civils?

...and I hope it would be possible to hunt Dark Brotherhood members (both NPC and players) when this guild appear in TESO.

I had a silly playthrough of Skyrim where I tried my darndest to kill one of the Solitude Thanes because I was jealous that he could be Thane and I couldn't. After a good 10 mins of trying to sneak him seceretly I managed to do it and was happy...until 2 days later I found out one of the Thieves Guild quests needs to go through him...
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!
