Two Cents from a Filthy Casual - ESO can learn from the mistakes of Destiny

So after hearing more or less a lack of news about the future of... well anything, some of us are understandably upset with the lack of concrete news, while others are patiently waiting for the patch notes before passing judgement. For me the biggest disappointment was realizing that they are waiting until major game updates (dlc) to release balance patches. I know that they said they announced this some time ago, but the optimist in me was hoping for a change in plans. I know that good things take time, and the course has already been set for many patches to come, but I want to give my two cents about this now so things can hopefully change in the future.

While Destiny and ESO are nothing alike in terms of gameplay or genre, they are both "time investment" games. I played Destiny a lot before making the switch to ESO overall, and what really turned me off Destiny is what's turning me off here. Waiting 2-3 months for a balance patch simply just doesn't work. Players will always adapt to use whatever advantage the game gives them, and they will adapt quickly. In between House of Wolves and The Taken King, pvp in Destiny took a swift turn for the worse and the players were left to deal with it until 3 long long months later. Trials of Osiris (the competitive PVP game mode) basically saw everyone use the same gun, every game. Then when the Taken King dropped, it was only a short time later when pulse rifles were dominating the crucible, and we were left til December for the next patch (which didn't work out too well).

I am not unhappy with the time being taken to prepare for this balance patch, but I am hoping that in future we can see balance patches 4-6 weeks apart, not every 2-4 months. Huge drastic changes will never be as accurate as many smaller changes. I know that many will consider this post off topic, but I just thought we could use the mistakes of another game as a warning of what may come. If they knock this patch out of the park nothing will make me happier, and damn is this game fun when everything is running smoothly.

Have a blessed year in Cyrodiil everybody! (Except you filthy reds ;) )

Surprised you made Destiny last that long. I lvled all toons and had almost all the weapons within the first week. It got boring fast so I moved on never to return.

I quit destiny when they added microtransactions. They act like they are some great MMO but has 0 linear progression and take away your content everyexpansion we lose maps. it's like if eso took all but 3 of their vet dungeons away, just to resell the same dungeons in a upcoming expansion. people who putt 500+ hours into it have no advantage when the new dlc drops. a fresh player can be in end game in 2 days of playing.

I wonder if this is actually becoming a thing. Gw2 took out all the guild perks you had unlocked through your time in the game and then locked them behind the pay wall of an expansion. I think ID actually prefer games cut content and sold it as a day 1 dlc, then take away what I had then sell it back to me.

Don't think their client allows them really fix things outside of big patches

Look how poor their hotfixes are.
