Weapon bundles please

So there is a decent amount of costumes but zero weapon skins. Everyone wants a flashy fire sword or cool bow, and I do mean everyone! This is a gold mine and the only reason I can think of why you haven't done this already is the tech. So can anyone answer if weapon skins are in the pipeline for the CS?

    Everyone minus me.

I really hope we don't see weapon skins in the crown store. We already have the elemental effects on weapons, though I would agree they should last longer or have an option to toggle the effect so it stays on.

If you're talking about some gaudy particle effect, wowish weapon skins... your statement is incorrect. No one wants this. Well, let's just say, not very many people want this. Also you can make any sword a cool fire sword with a fire dmg glyph.

Did I say wow weapon looks? I said weapon skins. A fire sword is a bit different then a cartoon bow that shoots rainbows.

Right but we can only assume you mean over the top and wowish since there are many skins to craft already and fire swords are already in the game.

I wouldn't mind them selling weapons skins if I thought any of the profits would go toward fixing the lag in Cyrodiil. I doubt that is true, though, and would never buy them. Never even thought of them til I saw this thread.

You know what they about assumption? And fire sword was an example. Skins don't have to be elemental based or over the top at all. But I do find most weapon to be rather lacking on the graphic department.

Actually the more simple animations are preferable to me. I like the dull glow or sheen that enchanted weapons have. I tend to wield disease or poison a lot, and I like the stinky aura that you get on those two. Lightning, Fire, and Ice also have their own effects. I think the animations are sufficient. In terms of the way the armor looks I actually would prefer if they moved toward more realism than less. I'll give a specific case in point: heavy armor should definitely protect the neck and throat. There really isn't much point in wearing a set of full plate armor with a helm that completely covers your face if you're going to leave your neck entirely exposed. The neck is one of the weakest parts of the human anatomy, and one of the primary targets specifically in combat swordfighting (I'm not talking about points based fencing). For the same reason I don't like seeing heavy armor that obviously exposes the heart or lungs. No intelligent soldier would do this. The whole reason you are willing to wear heavy armor is that it protects you, otherwise its not worth the extra weight you'd have to lug around.

Those are the two among many egregious mistakes that video game makers are guilty of when doing the art for armor in video games. ESO is more guilty on the neck protection. I do realize that many cultures had 'heavier' armor that didn't fully protect the neck, and while this is true their armor is most certainly not the heavy variety that a knight wore. The spartans for instance wore a heavy breastplate and some lighter armor with a huge shield and a fairly protective helmet. You'll note this helmet dips rather low, giving at the very least some good defense for the neck. I would say spartans wore 'Medium' armor though for the sake of this game.

Another artistic mistake made by many game designers is they make the equipment look overly heavy to be realistic. Truck fender sized pauldrons for instance are pretty normal in video games, and would be pretty ridiculous in real life. A lot of extra regalia is often also added to armor which is ridiculous. There is a difference between what a general would wear riding around in dress armor for show, and what he would wear for battle. I find it very ridiculous when armor starts having excessive amounts of hooks, chains, and doodads which would only manage to get the soldier stuck in most cases, and ultimately dead.

TLDR: I don't like the idea of overly flashy equipment, armor or weapons.

I do agree with you, the realism of the graphics of this game is what drew me in. I was a long time eq/eq2 player. It's an absolute stunning world but I find the armor and weapons plain. The spell effects are fine just would like to jazz up my weapon. I get excited to find a new vet level staff only to find out it looks like the one I had at lvl 12.

I guess I overestimated the people that would buy skins on the forums. I still whole heartedly think it would be a top seller in the CS and I would gladly get one

Then perhaps your op should have given us a bit more insight? Back to the topic at hand though. I respectfully disagree. The current weapon styles are lore friendly representations of what we've found in es games over the years. I enjoy their somewhat realistic design as well. I am all for dyeing them and new motifs being added though.

Or..... they could add this into existing costumes....

So those that wear the Jester costume get a bag of cat's weapon skin that makes a cat shriek sound on every hit for 2h and staffs. For bow users they get a crossbow that shoots cats, for one handed/duel wield it's two cats that you hold by the tails, the shield would be just a really big fat cat.....

Hey I'm not trying to knock down what you're saying, I'm just stating that I like the -generally- understated artistic style of the Elder Scrolls series. I wouldn't want them to change their style to become more like a lot of over the top asian games out there. Elder Scrolls definitely has its share of flash within a certain artistic style: Glass Swords for instance.

Hey that's what the forums are for. Agree, disagree whatever. We are having a discussion on weapon skins is all. Like I said before the common look of weapons throughout the leveling process just seems a bit boring to me. My vet 2 staff looks exactly like my lvl 12 staff. My reward for finishing the main story is a healing staff that looks like a stick. I would just like a little more epic looking weapon as I progress in power. I must admit I'm not far into vet ranks and haven't seen anyone with anything I would consider an awesome looking weapon. I just think it would add a lot of revenue to the game which is a good thing. I think it could be done in a tasteful fashion that is lore friendly.

I for one very much prefer the weapons we have right now.

No flashy perma-flaming swords, just a little subdued flame for fire enchantments.
No oversized so-called "impressive-looking" things, but plausibly-design weapons.
And most of all... no "weapon skins" that allow quick changing of your weapon visuals...

If anything, I might want special crafting styles for weapons only...
And a way to dye our weapons so we are not struck with "sith style" bright red blades for rubedite...
And maybe a way to recraft set weapons to any learned style...

    But definitely NOT weapon skins!

Eso has its style, which is more gritty and dirty with a sense of realism. Well, as much as you can get from fantasy MMO.
I'm extremely happy with the current design of weapons, they have flair but not to the point of breaking the theme of TES universe (thus not breaking immersion on the TES world).

Also it looks like the majority of people disagree with "everyone wants a flashy for sword or cool bow, and I do mean everyone". this game has grown from the roots of TES and doesn't alter the universe in crazy ways. I think that's why so many people stick with it, despite striking so many obstacles.

Well I think it all depends. Have you tried the Daedric staves? They look pretty ornate/fancy. I love the way my daedric fire staff gets a fireball inside it when I equip it. What exactly are you looking for?

I also agree with @TheShadowScout - I really don't like the way voidmetal turns my gear purple hued or rubedite makes it red. I just want a normal metallic colored sword or mace. No frills. I'm fine with other people having that if they want it. The only exception for me anyway would be a glass sword.

That was -just- what I was thinking of when I wrote:

I would love to see the weapon visuals for the companion weapons become craftable in some way. Especially if they were exxpanded a bit... giving a choice between two-bladed battle axe and one-bladed shorter hand axe for lyris style for example, or greatsword-sword-dagger for sai sahan, or so... and while we're at it, throw in abners staff to craft as well ;)

Of course, I would also love to see styles that currently exist only as costume because they kinda only cover armour appereance to become craftable instead. Nedic. Soul-shriven. Etc. But that's another topic I guess...
