Can someone explain to me what's good about a 64 bit client? No IT knowledge here

GW2 added a 64-bit client a few months back and all you had to do was download a few hundred MB or so and just replace the old GW2.exe with the GW2-64.exe. It was pretty easy.
Aside from the a few widespread problems on the first day it has otherwise been pretty smooth. Personally I have had no issues with it at all.
However, to be fair ANET is far, far, far better at finding bugs and squashing them fast, and they seem to be able to just push out patches to the servers on the fly, even while people are still playing. In fact their whole server/client system is superior to any other MMO I have played.

There terrible terrible terrible about hackers and account thefts, Specially once they merged in China ESO by far a better at squashing that crap

@danno8, how much of an improvement was GW2 after going from 32 to 64 bit? Was it a pretty noticeable difference?

new maps were quite resource heavy - some people where simply crushing to desktop so after a week or so Anet introduced a beta version of 64 - it helps because it allows for higher memory usage nothing else/

Right, but using more memory should allow for a smoother playability as it should remove the bottleneck there. So were people not able to play at all as they would just crash? I'm looking for information on how the game actually played on 32 bit vs 64 bit. Did it help at all? Not that the exact same thing would happen with ESO, we won't know what it'll do until we get it.

Well for me personally I noticed nearly no difference. But I had very few problems in the first place. I mainly switched to it to avoid potential problems. Same reason I will use the 64- bit ESO when it comes. Not because I have any memory management issues, but more to prevent any future issues of that specific type.
For GW2, load screens were always fast for me (never more than 5-10 seconds), even getting in game to a playable character from sign in is under 25 seconds for me so improvements are less likely to be noticeable.
But like @sadownik has mentioned, some people saw a large difference. If the game is coded to take advantage of extra RAM, in addition to fewer "out of memory/low on memory" issues you could potentially see things like:
- far less loading screens in and out of buildings
- quicker loading of textures for other characters / players
- less "on the fly" loading of terrain/objects
- less hard drive thrashing, although tbh I really don't currently notice any
But the game needs to be coded for this stuff, that is to say it needs to be told not to unload assets from ram as aggressively as it does now.
If the 64-bit client is released and you don't see a change in the minimum specs for RAM accompanied with it, don't expect to see any of the improvements listed above (aside from the low memory issues). It would mean the developers are likely rewriting the code to use the 64 bit binaries for stability, not for visual improvements.

@danno8 thank you for the detailed information. Hopefully for ESO the 64 Bit client will help out a lot. Even if it just takes care of Cyrodil loading screens I will be happy. Mine usually aren't more than 5-10 seconds either but last night in Cyro they were taking forever.

I would not expect the 64-bit client to resolve loading screen issues, in general.

Bout time they give us a 64bit client.

No games.on the market use over 8gig of system ram. Most run under 6gig. Unless you are running a browser in the background with 65 tabs open...
