The state of PVP in this game is an absolute joke...

I have been playing MMOs since the early 90's all while primarily focusing on PVP. When I first saw the adds for ESO I was intrigued due to the large scale uniqueness of the PVP system, something new to experience. When I got the game I was pleasantly surprised at how fun I was having in PVP, both small and large scale. Albeit the lag can at times be frustrating, but the objectives and flow of the battles was really enjoying to me.

Advance to present day and I can barley even stand going into what people call "PVP" in this game. There is no such thing as PVP. It is zerg ball versus zerg ball, in which whatever zerg coordinates their AOE better wins to retreat back to a resource tower and rinse and repeat. For the past two weeks every battle I have seen has been centered around large groups sitting in a single resource tower waiting for their ultimates, coming out, AOE zerg and repeat. This is not PVP it is a joke.

Groups are more inclined to sit at a central location and farm each other than try to push objectives. My own faction who rarely has their own scrolls will obtain a scroll RARELY. Will they run it back? NO! They again take it to a tower sit inside and farm AP.

Why even have objectives if players could care less to push them unless a group wants emp? I am not sure what has caused PVP to advance to the current state, but the current state is certainly up there with the worst of PVP I have seen in the MMOs I have played.

That's what happens if you keep encouraging zerging and if you keep bandaid fixing problems.

I don't even discourage a zerg. The large scale nature of the game encourages players to form groups and work together, which is fine. The problem I have is the way groups earn rewards and AP forces AP farming and now we have groups just sitting in a resource tower for hours on end. There should be something that discourages this type of activity.

Thats not a good response since the main focus of their PvP was large scale play how you want PvP .. obviously there is only so much play as you want that can happen in a game like this. But the PvP is nothing like it was when it launched.

I dunno had an epic battle last night. Only fort ash left with a scroll in it to keep emp. About 50 of us held it against both factions for hours and we were out numbered majorly but held for hours while the rest defended the other scrolls. Was epic a full 360 defence with siege. Don't know the outcome as it got to 3 am and I needed sleep. Good battles happen just a rarity these days

Only a few care about campaign results and map objectives, the rest is about AP, and considering it maybe useful again soon that is all many are and have always been concerned about.

I hear you though, the zerg vs zerg is fun in short bursts but it gets stale day in day out.
Also you're rewared for going solo or small by just be beaten up but a gang o thugs as soon as you poke your nose where its not wanted.

What can ya do.. play something else as suggested above.. or forget you have a brain of your own and join the zerg and roll in the ayepee

I completely agree with this and the OP's post.

Lately I have been trying to get more of my guild into Cyrodiil, yet the more we go into Cyrodiil to siege and have fun taking keeps, the more I am horribly reminded that this type of strategy and pvp NO LONGER EXISTS in this game!

All players are doing is AP grinding because of the outrageous AP cost of the new motif. Then once the Cyrodiil vendors for the gear comes in they will grind even more!!!! What the heck is ZOS trying to do?.... ruin the game?

That might change when they buff siege damage and add more siege weapons. Key word "when" atm siege is only good for knocking down walls really. Also there is talk of making towns capture objectives and also IC districts or something. I have hope for pvp in future. I'm on xb1 Eu and the objectives do get played but no where near as much as the Zerg ball farming.

There are talks of pvp arenas and dueling coming in so hopefully that will change a lot of it. Guess only time will tell

@Skullz11c - Join a dueling guild and do some 1v1 or 1vX or even XvX....

I also hate the ZERG vs ZERG mentality that the game has currently but this is hopefully going to start changing with the next release...

I am in a guild on EU and we can also zerg and do zerg... however i prefer it when we find a bunch of AD or EP of around 10 people and then we do some small scale.. Absolutely love it.....

I also love playing solo but that has its downside in that hardly anyone moves around solo in Cyrodiil anymore...

We also have factions that take scrolls and go and sit in a little house/resource somewhere and try to farm AP,
you have 2 options...... Feed them AP or Ignore them... the scroll will reset..

Sit on the main route between where they are farming and their closes keep and do some ganking...

    Agreed.

This type of gameplay is starting to seep into the Xbox platform as well, with teams sitting in a resource tower for hours on end instead of actually trying to retake the map for their team. One such AD team on NA is led by a player sharing a name with a certain over-sized, green, roid-raging comic book character, who shall remain nameless.

Thankfully it has not become widespread, from my observations, on Xbox. But I think, if they don't change the way the scoring works, it will only become more prevalent. Especially with, as others on this thread have said, the addition of a Vendor which sells Monster Sets for Alliance Points.

I do this sometimes, not for the AP, but for the fun. I'm so tired of riding from keep to keep and sieging. It's getting so old - I just want some open field PVP. Not horse riding simulation and throwing rocks at walls simulation, followed by killing NPCs.

We've had some nice resource fights lately. No one actually cared about the resource, we just had a great time killing each other.

When you promote pixel killing than large scale PvP achievements with appropriate rewards in a Faction vs Faction game this is what happens.

Atm getting a scroll or winning a campaign gives ***. On the other hand killing players gives APs.

It's because it's all about the AP, there are no objective based rewards in PVP. AP this AP that, quartemasters pages are all plugged up with AP purchaseble crap that should be rewards for end campaign. Instead we get useless garbage to decon and get a handful of crafting mats from.

PvP has certainly changed a lot since release. (Let's try to ignore the lag for a minute).

The main change that I was upset about was the whole IC debacle and the change in scoring in campaigns. Ever since then I haven't found fighting in a campaign any fun, I mean I find the fighting fun but couldn't give a rat's arse if we win. I know a lot of my mates and guildies feel the same.

I'm really hoping that the changes to siege will change the way we PvP and make the game more fun (it's still fun, just not as much).

I haven't played since July, when I last played the PvP was great.

There was always huge groups running to take over towers and castles, with massive resistance & sometimes it would result in those "Oh sh*t retreat!!" moments and other times it'd be "yea b*tch, all your castles are belong to us!".

Are you saying that now it's different and big groups don't attack castles like that anymore? Or is there just more points in defending instead?

The issue is aoe caps the smaller groups need to do stuff like go in towers to defeat the zergs that are running around, they can't just stand there and hope for the best as the game's mechanics at the current time is all about numbers sadly.
