Error 1005 - OSErorr_AccessDenied

Hello folks,

I've had this error for a year now. It popped up with Update 7. I have done the following:
  • Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe - Run with Administrator (even in its compatibility it's ticked.)
  • eso.exe - Run with Administrator (even in its compatibility it's ticked.)
  • Zenimax Online folder - Read only.
  • Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe, eso.exe, and the Zenimax Online folder are excluded through my antivirus.
  • Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe and eso.exe are allowed through my firewall.
I am at my wits end with this... I haven't played in months and dropped my subscription because of this Access Denied because the Error occurs after every single patch and every single update, and then I have to Repair, which makes me spend hours re-downloading and verifying the game.
At first, I thought, perhaps, it was my OS. I had Windows 8 (on a laptop), but then I switched over to Windows 10 (brand new desktop). For the record, all of the stuff I listed above did work. Once - on my desktop. And then the Error popped up again with the next Update/Patch.

So any and all input would be lovely.

    Aiya, no one has an idea of what I can do further? I perused the sticky of issues, but didn't really find anything new other than use Service Pack 3 compatibility, and there wasn't anything that dealt directly with my Error.

    Hi Mouse'attigan,

    I have a couple of thoughts:

    Firstly, does this error create an Error Event - which you should find in Documents / Elder Scrolls Online / liveXX / Errors.

    If so, for each error, you should see 2 files with the same long gobbledegook name.
    You can open the smaller files with .EXTRA filetype using Notepad, since it is a text file.

    Near the end of the file, you will find details of what operating system ESO thinks you have.
    For example, mine reads:

    os.osbits = 32
    os.platform = windows
    os.version = 10.0.10586.

    Secondly, are your Antivirus and Firewall being recognised by Windows 10. If not, you will find that your PC is also running Windows Defender and Windows Firewall - which you may have to poke some ESO-shaped holes through.

    Of course, what would be really helpful, would be for someone from ZOS to say what error conditions Error 1005 is designed to capture.

    Best wishes,
    John
