I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they aren't so separate. Because they supposedly moved the EU servers to Europe.
But don't ask too many questions you might not like where it'l take you.

Two different IP addresses for to different realms "The engine" but perhaps they share the same Database servers. Can have multiple databases on same server. The login servers work the same. This would cause that type of behavior, though not good practice in the IT world.0 -

That is normally part of back end stuff, doing stuff on the database side of things.0 -

The fact that they're going to monitor the performance of the PC EU server before bringing the NA server back up suggests to me that they're not really sure if they've fixed the problem or not.

Sure that's true. That gives them limited protection legally, but take this into consideration ....
Many players have played other games and it's been noted in trade journals that extended down times with unexpected delays and poor communications result in a loss of 3-5% of players base as they download and restart one of their older games and decide to stick with it for a while.
This is considered a mature game and I'm amazed that server downtime messages are just: NA will be coming down at 4:00 am for planned maintenance. With no planned up time or duration of down time stated. Like somebody else said, under promise and over deliver goes a long way in the mmorpg business. Or you could be like Terra Nova ... Over promise under deliver and go out of business.1 -
i dont know what u guys are taking about 12 hours of non game play back in early access many of us who reported gold sellers god flagged by the auto ban system as gold sellers and it took them 4 days to reckognise there was an issue so 12 hours is nothing ....
speaking of which i must drag out that chain of emails from that event it makes for very comical reading
