All I am saying is that these people need to keep us informed on the time frame of this "maitenance" so we can make our plans for the day.....not much to freakin ask man!!!

Update: We're still on track to complete maintenance around 1pm EST (in about an hour).

Ever heard of time zones ?
No matter when this "hour" would be set, it will only be "night" or "sleep time" for only a part of the player base.
(Not even mentioning that "night" does not necessarily equal "sleeping time" when it comes to gamers).

How about a little bit of thinking before ranting ?

Daily maintenance is actually not so bad - EVE online does it that way - sheduled normally for 30 minutes, most last just about as long as they need to restart the servers. Very rarely they last longer than an hour, but this is announced before - like on a major patch day -. If done professionally, a daily maintenance is not a big deal at all.

I'm not sure how Guild Wars does it but they never go down for maintenance, and in the 10 years that GW1 and 2 have been out I think the grand total of down time has been 1 day in total. Patches are easily downloaded and played quickly and they even have a new feature now that allows for playing even while downloading so long as you have downloaded up to a certain percentage.

I may be playing this game now, but that don't mean I cannot miss some things from other games.

I'm on East coast, and they would probably do it in the morning when I'm at work. So it probably wouldn't effect me. But then, most of the time regular maintenance doesn't effect me either, because I'm at work. In general I just prefer to be interrupted as little as possible, even if the interruption is bigger.

Are you replacing the servers or something? What maintenance takes 9 hours?

At least they started the maintenance earlier than normal. People would've cried more if they started at the usual 8am EST.

Omg 8am-5pm maintenance would cause mass rioting.

I have the flu so I have time to play but I guess extended maintenance is telling me I should go back to bed.

Yeah man, I hear you. My point is that sometimes you go into something expecting one outcome and encounter things that change the course entirely. I suppose if anything, if a problem crops up during routine maintenance you'd expect a proactive tweet or whatever saying "Hey guys, maintenance is taking longer than expected" but IMO the audience they're working for is so critical that it would open up a floodgate of "you can't even get your routine stuff right" (which would be completely unfair given the whole art/science point) and also, they're probably busy trying to handle whatever it is. All of this is working off the assumption that they encountered something unexpected. Anyway. I don't blame them for having to be asked in order to supply info.

Bottom line - I want to play too, and we will soon!

I completely understand. But they didn't say it was going to take 2 or 3 hours and then it takes 9 hours, if that was the case that would be more understandable, you'd assume that they ran into trouble. But to say, tentatively, that it's going to take 9 hours seems like a bit much. 9 hours to do maintenance seems like a lot.

There are no patch notes this week because this was not a patch, it is simply server maintenance... next week there is a likelihood of a incremental patch.

Look they're working on it, there's no way to know (unless they decide to inform us) why the server down time is longer than expected. Billy Joe Jim Bob the *** intern could have spilled a half dozen Latte's on a server cluster or Router stack. It could be anything.

Even if with a wrong trait I would love to at least have the opportunity to wear a decent monster helmet once just to say "hey, this is worst than I thought" and never use it again.

NA servers need work agreed. We also look forward to above mentioned improvements in the next patch. THIS though isnt a patch. Just maintenance. So yeah...

omg. All of you crying because the game is down is stupid. We are all well aware when they do maintenance so why not plan out something to do til early afternoon on Tuesdays? Sleep in and walk your dog when you get up, go to your local Comic shop and catch up on the latest issues, go to breakfast and sit in your booth with a news paper for 3 hours and then tip your waitress REALLY well. IDK just get off here and let ZOS do something more productive than answering your cry post.
