We are working to restore logins as soon as possible, though please understand that it may take upwards of a couple hours. We'll keep you updated.
How is that possible when they're physically placed in two seperate regions of the world and hooked up to different infranets?

The game servers are, the login server isn't.
Regardless of where the servers are physically located, they are all connected by the ZeniMax network. If one of the ZeniMax network protocols bugged out, it could affect anything running on that network with that protocol.good point but then they should separate them from each other. if they screw up one the other suffers from it...Logging in was the issue.... Most server farms have a login server (farm) separate from the game/data server farm. If you want a picture, think of the login server as the Ordinators in Mournhold who checks the IDs of citizens before allowing them access to the city of the Tribunal. Once you get in, you access your continents game server.how is that possible`? did u not move the eu server to europe? please tell me....ZOS_GinaBruno wrote: »Hi everyone. The login servers were what had maintenance yesterday and may have hiccuped without the game server going down.

How could that possibly even happen when allegedly the EU and US megaserver datacenters are on two seperate continents?
Login server is probably the same for both regions.

Wasn't that allegedly changed after the major outage months ago?

It's conjecture; I assume every company has a "company network" which their servers are connected to? Is that not how it works? You would definitely have a better idea than meMilwaukeeScott wrote: »Wait.....what?Regardless of where the servers are physically located, they are all connected by the ZeniMax network. Zen owns a network now? This is news to me and that's my line of work.

EDIT: Nice with half an hour rollback aswell.

The world servers for EU are in Frankfurt, Germany and the world servers for US are in Houston, Texas however the login server for both is in the same place in the US.
EU and NA world servers are separate, login servers are not.

I haven't seen a rollback happen in an MMO I've been playing for years now.

lets not get carried away bc u cant get ur fix for a few hours... *** happens... and if ur not a subcriber (I am since launch) then you dont really have a right to complain anyway... and if u are u still shouldnt be complaining :P

Clearly my time is more precious to me than yours is to you ;P Each to their own, I suppose.
Saying that a customer who has paid for a product doesn't have the right to complain to the company they bought it from is factually incorrect and beyond ridiculous.

But if by "complaining" you imply the respectless and rude all-caps rants that people feel entitled to post in here, then no.

Where have I either used all-caps or been rude? Clearly that is not what I meant by complaining. You are just putting words in my mouth in order to support your position and make me look worse.
WhatDoesItMatter wrote: »For the record, what I'm annoyed about is not the down-time - I expect that sort of thing to happen and it doesn't really bother me that much. I'm annoyed by the rollback that resulted in me having wasted my time earlier grinding a set of materials that I now no longer have. I think I have a right to be irritated by my time being wasted.
Look at it this way - If you spent an hour of your precious free time painting a picture and then someone came along and accidentally set it on fire then said "Oh well, just start again from scratch. You have no right to complain" would you be happy with them or annoyed?
anitajoneb17_ESO wrote: »I understand that rollbacks are annoying because you have to redo things and the re-doing is very boring. But talking of "time wasted" when the whole thing is a pastime anyway sounds a little bit over the top to me.
And even then : unexpected happens. Yes your nice painting could get a burn, sometimes your car lets you down in the morning when you have a very important meeting, sometimes ESO servers are down. It's nobody's fault, it just happens. Nobody deserves to be shouted at (especially not the car). Dealing with frustration is part of being/becoming an adult ... (or so I thought).

Yeah sure; I wasn't meaning that ZOS owned any external infrastructure, just that they probably have a direct connection to their different sites all centralised into their main office, so poking something in Maryland could conceivably have an effect on their connected servers in Texas and Germany.SuraklinPrime wrote: »Enodoc - generally unless you are talking about huge huge companies with their own wires traffic outside any single location will go out over a major provider's physical network to go between sites before hitting the actual networks owned by ZOS IT dept. It's really little different from how your home networking terminates at your router/modem and then passes over your providers wires to get anywhere else - just bigger, better and much more expensive
The company I work for has around 100 UK offices and a bunch more round the rest of the world and while I can remotely access any system in any office most of the intersite traffic goes out over services provided by people like Cable & Wireless, BT or Vodaphone.... network people helpfully draw a picture of a cloud to represent this... which is not like that other cloud that people keep banging on about...

Rollbacks has cost me 3-4 hours of play time since the game launched.
Servers being unavailable at the times where they should however has probably cost me somewhere in the region of two weeks, and not talking about total down time here, just the times I planned to play where servers were down all of a sudden. This has gotten way better the last year, but the first year was really bad.
Remember back during the first month where everyone had a week of extra play time added to their accounts because servers were down so much? That was to be expected with an MMO launch, and good customer service, but still doesn't make it okay.
Everyone not only have a right to complain, but also a very good reason. ESO is notoriously bad when it comes to performance issues and problems with server stability, compared to other MMOs I have played.
