Forced Camera Change (First Person to Third Person)

dentedhalo
Hi

Twice today while I've been playing the game has shifted me from first to third person viewpoints and wouldn't allow me to revert. The first time it happened I was playing the Veiled Heritance island missions and I was locked into third person view for the whole section. When I returned to Skywatch I also returned to first person view and my ability to switch back and forth was also reinstated. On the basis that it was limited to a specific section of the game I assumed it must have been scripted that way (I remained signed into my account for the whole section so the switching of views or the return of my ability to switch was not related to a restart).

However, its now happened again while out in the main map. I was just walking towards Dawnbreak and I went into third person again and cant get out of it. I know its unlikely this is by design but I wanted to ask if others had experienced this and if it is, by some odd chance, by design?

If this is a glitch, has anyone else reported it or gotten any feedback from Bethesda?

I'm playing on XB1 btw.

There are a couple of quests that have some forced switches.. I think that the Veiled Heritance is one... I want to say the other is in EP,. but I don't recall.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I get the same happen to me, however it normally happens when going from one wayshrine to another. jumping back through the wayshrine sorts it out. only started to happen after the last major update. i'm on PC.

I don't recall any instances that force you into different perspectives. And I've played all the quests in each faction numerous times, so unless this is a fairly new mechanic they've implemented, it sounds like a bug.

I play only in third person as do most others i think in elders scrolls online in beta they did not even have first person only third person, so be glad you have it.

I can confirm this type of bug - you teleport using the wayshrine being in 1st person and end up in 3rd person without the ability to switch back to 1st person. I am on PC as well, did not test, if it goes away when using the wayshrine again though.

Yep, happens to me, too. I found using the wayshrine again usually fixes it. Logging out then back in also fixes it. Reloadui doesn't fix it. Only started happening after the last update.

no offense but why would anyone play in first person? You are cutting your field of view down by at least half. I tried to play in first person but it is far too restrictive. And changing the distance you have the camera at in third person is the key- it was too close at first but once I found out you could change the distance that made all of the difference

Because third person is easy mode, and gives more information than you would have in real life. Also known as, it is more immersive that way. Turn the music down, and the sound effects up a touch, and you have your ears to hear what is coming behind you, just like real life.

As to the OP, I had this happen several times, using the way shrine fixes it, as does logging off and then back on. It is a bit annoying, especially if you use the Way shrines a lot. I use the shrines to get around fast when I am speed questing, but when my time to play is longer, I don't use them often, and the bug doesn't happen as much.

I have the same bug fairly often when using wayshrines in Wrothgar.

And as to the 1st vs 3rd person, it's all a matter of personal choice.

Haven't been taken out by a WB yet. I usually get taken out by another NB. I also tend to maintain some mobility, so line attacks tend to end up near me, not on me, both PvP and PvE. I do tend to spend more time in PvE. When I PvP I will be skirting the edges of a battle, to include sniping from the opponents side of the battlefield.
