How come all the harpies in Wrothgar look like big birds with womens faces?

Did everyone who knew what harpies looked like get jobs somewhere else? Someone could have looked at the harpies you already made and just made more of those.

I just wish they had retconned all the non-wrothgar harpies to the new look... though I guess I can see it as a subspecies thing, extra feathery "northern" harpies while the others are maybe "southern" harpies.

Must be something like european swallows vs. african swallows... hmmm... now I wonder which kind of harpy has the higher flight speed... ;)

I would expect that the sub-species of wildlife would differ from region to region based on the climate.

One of the quests says that the harpies in Wrothgar have inbred so much they are no longer anything but giant birds.
    Perhaps that explains it?

They look like harpies to me. They are supposed to look like birds with a woman's face so not sure what your problem with them is. As someone else has mentioned, different region different looking fauna.

within the Wrothgar story line (somewhere...can't remember exactly) there is a reference to these harpies being different...something about being less intelligent, etc

Thats how harpies are supposed to look acording to greek mythology where they originate. Big birds with female faces. Not half naked chicks ( heh ) with wings for arms and talons for legs

They are a mix. There are clues in the quests as to why they look this way. A spell, humans, harpies, fleshy eggs, etc....

As a few others have pointed out, the Wrothgar harpies suffer from a LOT of inbreeding, which made them more or less just unusual-looking birds that can occasionally use shock magic. So it's no surprise they look more animalistic than the high rock /hammerfell harpies.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

The heroes during times of war, are nothing but mass murderers during times of peace.

ya the naked half women if how Dungeons & Dragons envisioned them. but the point is: consistency. if you're going to create something with a new look why not give them a new name and make them something entirely different?

They're obviously Asexual, and reproduce with themselves.

Or maybe explain that they're a different species of harpy that's native to Wrothgar and really not much different from a big nasty bird. Wait, they already did that right in the DLC...

Damn, I think you're right. First Nick Cage is an immortal vampire, and now he's a harpy. Is there any mythological creature that won't turn out to be Nick Cage?

Reminds me of a joke about women from Wyoming. (don't shoot the messenger)

What's the difference between a vulture and a woman from Wyoming?

One has a long beak sitting on a rather ugly head and picks at dead things along the road.

    The other one flies...
