When they don't show up in game we just see gamertags?? Makes no sense.

So when you craft an item you can see a name that means absolutely nothing.

It shows up on Leaderboards and on your gear if someone else crafts it for you. I was a little frustrated its not more visible, since I spent an hour crafting what I thought was a neat character name. But what are ya gonna do? There is a hundred other things ZoS needs to address first.

I didn't know we could name cartoons on the game!

As for naming your characters, yea, its as useful as ice cubes for Eskimos.
    All good Nords goto Sto'Vo'Kor.

I must've missed this, where did they mention nameplates being added soon?

Or did you just mean 'Soon' :D

    I don't play "toons" .. I play characters.

Toons are for kid programs broadcast on TV.

They talked about it on the most recent ESO live. Likely coming with the next DLC or if not shortly thereafter.

Because someone's gamertag that reads XxSlayer420xX is far less immersion breaking than Bjorn the Skeeverbane.

It's hilarious that most of the gamertags would probably be forced name changes on the PC but they are free to stay on console.

Just more amateur hour from ZOSE. Nothing to see here.

Well, players could be identified by their credit card numbers, which would also make it easier to generate some reports for top brass, but that would compromise security of online payments. Like...compromise even more. What online payments have in place of security.

    Honestly,
A lot of that comes from the original design of the game before the 12+ months delays, etc.

Even on console BETA we did see players names in group and a lot more interfaces than just guild or after something was crafted.

When you look at the PC design, the console is a direct design off this from the name perspective and its seen more when you look at someone on PC playing using the game pad UI.

Characters also were available to transfer from PC to console so the console had to have some of the exact same account and character creation tools.

    make sense?

You obviously don't play very many mmos
That's what you call separate characters in a online rpg like wow, eso, and other mmos

I've played two: This one and SWTOR. I dislike WoW crap being carried over to better games.

Ok then don't be ignorant about stuff. They called them toons in swtor too. You haven't even played wow and you're talking now as if it isn't the best mmo in the world for years now and eso isn't even in the top 10. "Better games" lol

I've played MMOs since Ultima Online was first released, have played nearly all of the popular ones and even though yes people do use the word "toons" to describe their characters, it's still *** cringeworthy and hurts to read/hear people say it. And yeah ESO is a way better game than WoW. Argumentum ad populum doesn't work here.

Agree to disagree ESO is in the Top 10 MMOs and in 2015 is number 1 in many of MMO of the year awards, been playing WowWfor 5 years (still playin) and ESO is better than current WoW.

I agree current wow is bad compared to eso now. But eso at release was garbage and not worth the sub requirement. But I really just wanted to know why the names were so pointless. These guys sprouting their opinions over me saying toons lol.

You were given multiple answers to your questions, and people are responding to other things said in the thread. It's a minor point to be talking about, sure, but nothing wrong was done. Toon is a terrible word to use to describe your character (obviously my opinion), but I don't judge or criticize people who do.

It's a bigger thing in Europe I guess because everyone in those servers on almost every mmo I've played says toon. It's shorter than character so it's faster and that's why people use it not because they think it sounds awesome or uncringeworthy. Lol it's a habit developed to type in combat for me and I just got used to saying it.

Sure it would be nice to have an option between displaying character name and @ name but sadly it is not, as for the toon thing i think it was born back in the old days in EQ or Vanilla wow because the graphics where so cartoon like that your characters looked like it came out of some Cartoon Network show.

Oh for sure, I get exactly why people use it. It's short and easy to remember, perfect for its intent. I just personally dislike it because it sort of has a subtle degrading effect on how you perceive your character. Once again I know it's just my opinion and this isn't true for everyone, but I think the word character has a bit more dignity and gravity to it, toon seems kind of like one-dimensional and reduces your avatar to just another game mechanic, character to me implies something so much more. I know people who use the word toon doesn't mean that they view their characters like this or others, it's just me. That's why I personally never liked it.

I get that but it doesn't make me less immersed since I usually play on PC so I can see my name and *** all the time.
