I understand not wanting to take the time to give us an event or some "free" Items for the Christmas Holiday. But, couldn't we have gotten a message saying Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Thanks for a great year, or at least a kiss our ass. There was no anything for us as players.

Maybe they are spending the time fixing the game instead of writing greetings.

If they did, I imagine some people would have complained about having religion forced on them, or how it breaks their immersion with ES lore...

It's a game, I don't need goodwill and blessings from Zenimax for a holiday that not everybody celebrates.

In fact, if they "celebrated Christmas", I expect something on Chinese New Year, which is a much bigger holiday for me.

This. I wouldn't mind some lore-friendly holidays, but any real world ones are bound to be culturally insensitive and leave out many people.

Just like Halloween... other mmo's have nice events with quests which give you FREE rewards like costumes, mounts and house decorations. In TESO only some overpriced costumes/mounts in the crown store.

what did you expect with other holidays?

Yes me to, i expected more stuff in the crown store. But instead we got nothing.

Or maybe they care about those of us who have said, categorically, on several occasions that we don't want real-world holidays in our ESO experience thanks.

For me the lack of Christmas based rubbish in-game is a relief, not an annoyance.

So on the basis of not carrying out a single pop-up announcement for a non-ES, real-world holiday...

... you want them to fire the current devs and hire new ones. O.o

That's a smidge on the harsh side, isn't it?

I think I've figured out exactly why they didn't offer any Crown Store sales... did anyone else notice the HUGE flood of new players yesterday?!? I was on my new character in Auridon and there were players everywhere coming off the boat, I couldn't complete a single quest or delve solo because of so many players. I think ZOS figured that with Christmas, many players would be getting ESO as a gift, so they didn't want to lose revenue by offering a discount- thus- new players have to pay full price for Crown Store items.

Yeah, Halloween is not also celebrated everywhere but it didn't prevent ZOS from 'smuggling' it into the game.
I don't expect them to give us santas, reindeers etc., cause I understand other people's beliefs and I fully respect that. But what harm would happen to these people when they would get a nice event or free items not connected with the Christmas itself. It would be nothing but pleasure!
And please don't come up with this whole lore thing. Can't people really separate the game universe from the real life? ZOS is a game company, we are its players (customers) and as such we can expect some real-life pleasure as a Christmas gift but not necessarily referring directly to Christmas (regarding the fact that not everyone celebrates it).

I'd argue that Halloween is more of a cultural phenomenon than an obvious religious holiday like Christmas that might offend those of other faiths if their holiday is ignored (if you acknowledge Christmas, why not Yom Kippur, Ramadan etc...) or a militant atheist who thinks all religions are bad.

Personally I am neither religious nor militantly atheist. I mostly just don't care about a game recognizing a real world holiday and I don't feel entitled to get anything for it such that I am disappointed when I do not.

I'm indifferent. I care about Christmas, which is why I was busy preparing and celebrating it with my loved ones - I didn't even log in to ESO, so I wouldn't have seen any message. I wouldn't mind a lore-appropriate holiday event and wishes from the company are a nice touch, but I don't need to shoehorn real life into video games.

In any case, if they decide to do some sort of server-wide message in the future, I sincerely hope they remember about important dates from every major religion and culture their customers come from. They know where we live, they can work it out.

heck even happy holidays since not everyone celebrates the same thing it could include new years in the happy holidays since it is a pretty general statement. on another note I celebrate Christmas but if someone told me happy kwanza or have a great Hanukkah I would not be offended I would thank them and say same to you. It is more of the idea that they were wishing me a good holiday or something of that nature. I will say if it was more of happy holidays thing even if they put it into a lore holiday greeting would be cool but not needed

I didn't even log in on Christmas so I didn't miss the nothing message. Plus I don't celebrate it like others, I just drink and watch my family enjoy the time. Also they'd have to some respect to all holidays, not just the judeo-christian ones, and that'd take up more time that could be spent somewhere else. Sorry to sound like a negative nancy.

I agree @ruben , the question is how much time should we "give" them before we expect these things? This is the 2nd holiday season within ESO... 3 years? 5? This is what Wildstar had... and that game is younger than ESO with a team that seems to be smaller than ZOS'.

Oh them graphics make my brain hurt!

I would like them to implement Tamriel holidays into the game. But stuff like the above is best left to the games like the above.

One thing this game is missing for an MMO is dynamic and random events. MMO's do need those. So Tamriel holidays would be most welcome.

Your holiday note is on the ESO home page.

"We'll be taking a short break to relax and share a sweetroll or three with our families, but we'll be back on January 4 th to kick off the New Year. From all of us at ZOS: have a very Happy Holiday, and join us in raising a glass of mead to a successful year! "

    http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/2015/12/22/a-look-back-on-2015

As for in-game stuff. You can organize your own events, like many people do. Other than that, these threads just make you look spoiled, OP. We all want in-game events, and I think they'll come. I don't think it's fair to say that they gave us nothing. I don't even consider that. We have the game, that's what we bought, not ass-kissing.

What Halloween costumes was? I think Real Life Holidays are confirmed, as for this Christmas they simply didnt had time to do it instead of the contest.

Im not fan of real time Holidays but just need to suck it up I suppose. Usually when things comes standard, everybody do them. Theres more horrible stuff though like bikins, shades, picnic stuff etc. People gotta have Summer Party, right.
