Do I have to Logout

I play on PS4. Do I have to logout before I turn off my console. I always do out of habit from the old days of MMO's but I haven't read anything in this game telling me to do that.

I just turned it off without logging out. Doesn't hurt anything.

I do that for the same reason as you, LBC... but also I feel that it may save more solidly, somehow. And closing application so my PS doesn't get mad at me when I next turn it on.

I advise logging out, as simply cutting your PS4 off may delay your character leaving Tamriel, and could result in death before logging if done somewhere unsafe.

Joe you are right about being killed before your character logs off but I am usually in a safe town when I log out.

Other than that it looks kind of up in the air.

That's exactly what I feel. That it saves more solidly. Haha

Oh well even if they told me it was safe to just turn off I probably wouldn't feel comfortable without logging out first.

It is not that your character would be saved when you log out or something like this - all states are permanently updated in an MMO, unlike in a single player game. When you just cut the line, it is as if you would have lost connection for the server. It will let you remain in game for 10 seconds and then remove your avatar from the scene - and this is just to avoid that people just cut the line in dangerous situations to escape it. It is not as if something would have to be saved, all is permanently updated.

You should always log out. The 10 secs suggested above is also incorrect.

    Do you have to, no
    Should you, yes
Why....because any food, exp, or other effects will continue running up to what I've noticed on Xbox one to be 1 hour longer.

It also messes up ppl if you're in a group or if someone is trying to interact with you as your chat is just sitting there. My real life friend does it all the time and so one specific day, his char stayed on while his Xbox one was off for 2 hours (unusual) but it happens.
