How can Zenimax Stop the Dark Brotherhood Quests from being Another 1 Dimensional Quest line?

The last thread I posted on how theft could be more interesting seemed to be popular.... so I figured , why not put together some ideas for the Dark Brother as well?

Personally , I would love to see a mix of normal NPC assassination quests and special PVP assassination quests.

PvP quests being where you can only accomplish the mission and return to the quest giver when - for example - you have assassinated 3 dark elf players.... or 3 members of the Daggerfall Covenant or something like that.

I also hope there are some really sadistic and gruesome DB abilities and skills in their skill line.

Over to you guys..... Any creative ideas to stop the Dark Brotherhood from just being another faction like all the others?

    I hope there is something for us PvErs as well as good PvP for you guys! :}
The mixture would be nice. I wish whenever they made new content they would do it for both. Not one DLC for PvP and another for PvE.It would stop people from feeling left out. There was a great quest line in Morrowind for the DB,and if they brought it over to ESO it would be a lot of fun.

Agreed. Only logical really. We have the justice system in game so let's really put it to use.

It is logical, however,as it is,we get bounties without anyone even knowing our names. We should have the dialogue of giving our names to those who find us out.

technically, DB dlc has no reason to allow you to kill other players. (why would an NPC hire to kill him?)
    UNLESS,
they make a system where a player can tag another player / character with a contract, and then the player who kills that mark *first, at least*, redeems the quest/reward in teh ammount the other player paid.

The justice system will have murderers.
    Dark Brotherhoods has Assassins.
very different. The former is a thug, the latter is an artist.

    PVP:

    messages from sithis:

in cryodiil, we naturally get the "revenge kill" applied if we avenge and murder the person who killed us first, or some one we kill that has recently killed another person, but it only lasts for i think 5 to 10 minutes then its forgotten by the system. but what if, maybe we got rewards based on specific kills we are sent to revenge for others? or perhaps random revenge kills on a marked target and they get a message that this was from sithis because they previously killed some one and this was thier reward? and also an extreme high reward based on complete stealth, and we were not seen murdering the person who we are seeking as a revenge kill and allowed the revenge memory to last untill we complete that target contract from sithis.

    PVE:

    5 tenants:

as allways we cannot be seen going into that area and not seen committing the murder of the target and not seen leaving the area. just like tradition.
and ofcourse our rewards would be based on that.

I want to preform the black sacrament and take hits out on other players. Make it happen ZOS. And Lenikus is right the brotherhood doesn't just kill for no reason. The order has to come from the night mother through the listener.

So far they have done poorly with mixing PvE content with PvP... aka Imperial City DLC which was a major fail for them which means I don't foresee them adding another mixed zone again, at least until they can figure out how to give toggle options for players to turn on/off PvP within PvE zones.

I have not even heard of them mentioning anything about PvP in relation to the upcoming DLCs... and we all know how frequently speculation turns out to be incorrect. What I find interesting is that so many players spend all these hours putting thought and input into suggestions on the forums but I have yet to see any of them actually gain any ground with the devs. It appears the devs have their own agenda and ideas and don't care for input unless it involves bug reporting, which are the only things I've seen the devs implement based upon player feedback.

This is the way I see it:

The Thieves' Guild and the Dark Brotherhood will both be considered Guilds. As such, there is a strong possibility they will have their own Skill Lines. As per tradition you will need to do something related to each "Guild" to advance in the Skill Line's Rank until you get it up to 10. This alone means you have more than just a quest line to look forward to, assuming my theory is correct :)

    *minor snippage here*

It appears the devs have their own agenda and ideas and don't care for input unless it involves bug reporting, which are the only things I've seen the devs implement based upon player feedback.

My understanding is that part of the problem with IC was exactly what you noted - the devs don't listen.

IC (according to at least one of the pod/video casts) was a response to players saying they wanted duelling (i.e. 1 v 1, 2 v 2). The devs apparently thought that what this actually meant was "I want a place to gank" - so IC was created as a gank-ville answer to what the devs (mistakenly) thought a bunch o folks were asking for.

    So working as intended...

    Just not-very-well-intended
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I am with you on the toggle options for PvP.This is close to the way WoW does it.Only someone can challenge you and you can either take the challenge or decline and continue playing.I have done PvP that way there, but I hate the idea of going anywhere I could just be snuck up on and ganked. So,I have only been into the sewers of IC,and once poked my head up out of them for a tiny look.

Here is how I would do the npc side to the Dark Brotherhood. You get a string of kill targets ranging all across Tamriel. I would rather see a weekly quest with a huge money reward/random loot with a chance of epics dropping from the kill target. Ugh that would be so much fun. The main quest line for them of course is beyond me guessing wise but personally I think it would be fun to take out a few warlords here and there and perhaps a few underworld figures all leading up to the final target, some 4th faction who comes up out of nowhere for a moment before you take out their leaders therein destroying the faction. Now pvp wise, I would actually have it give you a random high ranked player on an opposing faction to kill. There is of course no way they can actually pull off the pvp side to this (probably) but that is how I would do it. Then you have to track down your target and it would take a long time but that is what I love, the hunt. I do not wish to see the same kill target over and over again like in Skyrim.... A random generator would be nice or just a massive list of kill targets that never repeats the same target. Fairly simple to keep on adding more kill targets in updates.

My "make or break" with ESO is with the next two DLCS. If the next two DLCs introduce guilds, skill lines, narratives, quests, and objectives that are completely isolated in their respective zones I will have no more use for ESO. A thieves guild that is just in one zone makes no sense. ZOS needs to grow and add to Tamriel as a whole, not just add another "add-on" every quarter.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

I can virtually guarantee that the next DLC will work similar to Orsinum. Adding quests, etc to the existing zones sounds nice but does work for the majority of the player base. You need to have access to these zones, requiring finishing the main quest and Silver/Gold. There are simply not enough players to make such a DLC commercially viable. That's the main reason why everyone can play in Orsinum.

No, you can do what other MMOs have done... which is to put a system in place whereby if you kill a player who is more than a few levels lower than you , then you will gain infamy and will be attacked on sight by the guards for a few hours.

    Easy problem to get around.

They should give us wall scaling abilities and make quests to go with those. So a high level NPC assassination where they are safe in their home castle. You would go there at night and climb the walls looking for a way in. This would be a great addition to the game and make it a lot more fun sneaking into places instead of crouching your way in.

on that note with the Justice system in place as well I'm sure most of these guys will go broke ...Sounds like a nice deal but have a feeling they will not profit much over all........... Now say they add in some PVErs dream of a skill in one of the skill lines then it will become all the rage,

I would like to see them integrate the Dark Brotherhood (or Thieves Guild for that matter) into the rest of Tamriel. Give us a reason to go back to those beautiful regions that we don't visit anymore!
