Under Social>Guilds, I only have the option to create a guild. How do I search for a guild to join? I need to sell items.

Head to the Guild subforum here and look for a guild! As well guild advertise on some third party sites and I believe they have a Guild Fair Friday over on the ESO Subreddit where people advertise their guild.

To find the subforum in the official forums just click on categories. then scroll all the way down. There you can select what platform/server you play on :)

There's no way to find a guild in the actual game -- I have to go through websites? That seems rather strange, especially since they force you to join five guilds just to sell things.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything. You have the option to join up to 5 guilds, and to list items in those guild stores. You have the option to join guilds for social or gameplay reasons and not sell things in the guild store. You have the option to join no guilds, and sell everything to a merchant npc. Or any combination of those and more.

There is no ability to search for guilds within the game. It would be helpful for new members, but it isn't hard at all to find guilds. Ask in zone chat (on pc) or your area channel (console) for trade guild invites.

No, if the only way to sell items is to join five different guilds (which only reaches a mediocre 2.5k people, excluding a store), that is forcing us to join five different guilds to sell our items. I don't know how that makes no sense to you. Out of curiosity, how do you sell your items without a guild? Since, you know, you're not forced to join a guild to sell your items.

I don't know what ESO's endgame items are like, but if they're anything like other MMOs, I couldn't imagine selling rare boss drops to an NPC. That almost hurt just to type.

I'm in 2 trade guilds, a social guild, an end-game pve guild, and a PvP guild. I only use the stores of my trade guilds. It's stupid easy to earn more gold than you can imagine spending, and most of us got there without using 5 guild stores. And I vendor boss drop pieces all the time. Not many people actually want those. The best stuff is bind on pick up, and I make far more crafting custom gear than selling drop set pieces (jewelry sets excluded).

You seem to only be open to the economy structure you know from other games. I suggest you keep playing them instead. You don't seem like the "open to possibilities" type.
